Do I need my wife's Tabian Baan to register our marriage at the Amphur in Thailand?

Hope this is a valid question in this group. I'm back in BKK and about to register our US marriage in Thailand. I think I've got all the steps down, except the very end... When we go to the Amphur, do we absolutely need to have my wife's Tabian Baan? I read it was more of a suggested document than a requirement. She left it in the US...so just trying to see how necessary it really is once we get to the Amphur. Thanks in advance!

TLDR : Answer Summary
The questioner is seeking clarification on whether a Tabian Baan (Thai house registration book) is absolutely necessary for registering their US marriage at an Amphur in Bangkok, as their wife has left it in the US. Responses suggest that while it may not be strictly required, it is often recommended, and local practices may vary. Some members also mentioned the possibility of retrieving a copy while in Thailand.

If your in Thailand you can get s copy. Why did you not get married in the U. S.?

Thanks, everyone. We did marry in the US and just want to get her name changed in Thailand, along with registering our marriage in case I ever decide to apply for the extension.

it is far easier to just get the marriage of a thai national abroad registered at the local Amphur than screwing around with the foreign marriage documents possible translations, possible Ministry of Foreign Affairs stamps, etc every time you need to prove you're really married to your thai wife. That Kor Ror 22 is the proof you want

That's true if applying for s marriage extension to support a Thai wife. The registration if a marriage is free although the paperwork from the American embassy, cost of trsnslation, and cost of the stamp at the Thai foreign affairs office can run into a lot of money

, true, but it is far more easy when you apply for the Extension of Stay and need the paper that you're still married and registered. Kor Ror 2, this form stated that your marriage is still registered, cost 20 Thb and you get in a few minutes at the Amphur. I guess a copy from abroad, translated and verified will cost much more time and money.

You do not have to register your marriage in Thailand. Your marriage from the U. S. Is also recognized in Thailand

they DID get married in the US and they are going to register the marriage of a thai national abroad at the local amphur and get a Kor Ror 22 form that shows it

As a rule the thai house book stays at the property that it's for, because usually there are a LOT more than one person listed in it.

I'd say the only way you're really going to know is to go to the amphur you're going to register the marriage at and see what documents are required.

Scan and email...print out the document ??? Just a thought.

As like many offices in Thailand, they all have their own specialties. You maybe lucky, you may by unlucky and have to wait till the housebook is here.

Yes you need it. And copies are fine.

The only one who can tell you is the office itself. Good luck.

Thanks, Robert. Wonder if I get a copy sent to us if that would suffice...
