Hi, this may or may not be relevant or may have been asked many times. I'm on tourist visa and bought a condo in CM to prepare for my retirement visa next year and was issued a blue book and title deeds by land authority (all arranged by developer). Now the problem arise when I wanted to buy a new car but the sales person said yellow book (for foreigners) is needed for car registration. Blue book are meant for Thai nationality only. Is it true? Do I need to go to immigration to apply for certificate of residency in order to buy a car? My developer said never heard of yellow book before so need some advice here. Thanks for the help.

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user is on a tourist visa and has purchased a condo in Chiang Mai to prepare for a retirement visa. They were informed by a car sales person that they need a yellow book to register a car, as their blue book is only for Thai nationals. The response confirms that the blue book is indeed for Thai residents. To buy a car, the user needs to either apply for a yellow house book at the amphur (city hall) or obtain a certificate of residence from immigration, especially since they might not have completed the 90-day reporting required for residence documentation.

@Loke *****
you should look into getting the yellow house book and the pink i/d card for foreigners here too though, they do have their uses (marginal as they are)..

Good Luck

We're done as this isn't even remotely thai VISA related ;)

Right, IF you look in your blue book you'll see that it's BLANK :O That's because only thai nationals (or foreigners who have permanent resident status) can be in a blue book

You would indeed get a yellow house book <- and that would have your name in it and could be used as proof of residence.

Go to your local amphur (city hall) and see what the requirements are for a yellow house book

OR

Go to the chiang mai immigration office and buy a certificate of residence like most people do when they buy/sell vehicles

thank you and you are right. No name on the blue book. Looks like I have to make a trip to cm immigration to buy a certificate of residency.

Correct, the blue book is only for Thai residents. The yellow version if for foreigners and you can apply for this at the amphur. If you did not do a 90 day in Thailand report you will not get a certificate of residence in Bangkok, you than have to get one from your Embassy.
