ORIGINAL POSTER
I will get a Non Immigrant O Visa for my next visit, the question I have ... To open a bank account what is the customary amount required to just open the account for starters. I am not necessarily trying to deposit 800,000 for one year extension. Primary goal is to open a Thai account and slowly bring to 800,000. I will be leaving in 60 days with the Non-O Visa. Again, looking to just get and maintain an active Thai Account for future retirement Visa long term.

TLDR : Answer Summary
To open a bank account in Thailand with a Non-Immigrant O Visa, the customary minimum deposit is around 500 THB, although some banks may accept as little as 100-200 THB. It's also important to have a Thai mobile phone number registered in your name linked to the bank account. Be aware that many banks might require you to have a long-term visa to maintain the account, and the requirements can vary between banks and branches.

Don‘t forget to have a Thai mobile no. too.

Most banks require you to have a long term visa to open a bank account.

@CjandBrigitte *********
at least a longterm lease contract. They just want a proof for longterm residency
CjandBrigitte **********
@Sue *********
They want to see your visa. Thats why a DTV visa holder cant open a bank account as its not seen as a long term visa.
Sue **********
@CjandBrigitte *********
yes I know, but they can also refuse to open an account with only the 90 days non-immigrant one
Greg ***********
@Sue *********
they can refuse, but why would they? If you meet incompetent and unwilling bank staff that are unable to open a bank account for you on a Non-Imm-visa type, buy an agent's service

Must start with

to open a bank account!!!!

@Martin ********
you can't open an account with a tourist visa. Good luck with that

@Robert *******
he never said he would! Which one of us should learn to read?? I know the answer but you probably can't read it so I'll refrain from that

@Robert *******
the OP has not got a tourist Visa. He is entering Thailand with a non o 90 day Visa obtained in his home country with which he will be able to open a bank account with as little as 500 baht. I know because I have done it. Bangkok bank account with 500 baht and no insurance requirement.

@Nick ***********
if you want to extend the 90 day to 1 year retirement you need
*****
0 in bank for 2 months before application. Why is this so difficult to understand?
Erik ***********
@Robert *******
read the post, op specifically states that he is not applying for an extension, and also that he wants the account to start saving for the needed funds! So what are you up to? Create confusion?
Nick ************
@Robert *******
it's quite easy to understand I have done it for 5 years. The problem here us that you can't comprehend the question that was asked. The op wanted to know how much deposit is required to open a bank account and that is NOT
*****
0 baht. I have opened two both with 500 baht. Do you understand now?
Garry ***********
@Robert *******
why on earth does he need to deposit 800,000 bht, to open on account, he is only staying for 60 days, normally it’s just a few thousand bht, he can then deposit at his choice until he decides for a longtime visa to get the required 800,000
Robert ********
@Garry **********
be cause he wants a retirement visa. You can't open an account on a tourist visa. Good luck trying
Garry ***********
@Robert *******
not initially he is leaving Thailand in 60days,that would be quickest retirement ever
Kim *********
@Robert *******
he said he will be here on a non o next time and will open a bank account and use it for retirement and wants to know the minimum required deposit for opening a bank account and will add money in the account later till it reaches 800k. You didn't get it - he will not open an account on a "tourist visa"
Robert ********
@Kim ********
you cam only open the account when he gets a 90 day non O.... Money must be in account for 2 months before application for 1 year. So tell me how that works?
Kim *********
@Robert *******
yeah yeah - he intends to open an account on a non o. He is not talking about extension of stay anytime soon.
Kim *********

@Kim ********
for the first retirement visa you are required the full

0. After that you can use the

a month method. Not nonsense. Learn to read.
Stephen *********
@Robert *******
the amount initially deposited can be the minimum the bank requires. The 800,000 needs to be there from the date the immigration office requires. Not the same thing.
Kim *********
@Robert *******
you should learn to read!! He was not asking for the amount for retirement. He was asking for the minimum deposit for opening a bank account which is a couple of hundred baht. TRY to read the post again - maybe you get it right the 2nd time.
Robert ********
@Kim ********
good luck opening the account
Jamie ********
@Robert *******
I opened mine with 2000 last week, no need for full 800,000

@Robert *******
I have 2 - I don't need 3.

Minimum amount for opening bank acct for most thai banks 500baht
Ally ************
Please bear in mind you will need an active Thai mobile phone number registered in your name attached to your bank account.. some banks are having a purge and freezing or forcing account closure if they later identify anomalies with linked phone numbers.. and if people are out of country when this occurs it becomes a nightmare to resolve.. since they must visit their branch with documentation to get the account unlocked! And if at this stage they find your initial non-o visa has expired.. without you ever converting it into a long term visa.. eg. a married visa or retirement visa extension.. they will likely insist on account closure anyway.

Mininum amount

@Marty *****
well aren’t you just sweet and helpful.
Jay *******
I was told 500 baht when opened my first account. My second account they did not say because they knew I was depositing a few thousand baht. You may find that the requirement is different at the different banks and also different branches but it should be very minimal wherever you go
Damo ***********
should be ok with 100 - 200 thb
