I have a DTV visa. Does anyone know the minimum months I need for a lease to open a Thai bank account? Examples: 1 month, 3 month etc. Thanks

TLDR : Answer Summary
There is no specific lease requirement to open a bank account in Thailand with a DTV visa. Each bank sets its own requirements, and in many cases, individuals with a DTV tourist visa may face difficulties opening an account. It's advisable to check with the specific bank branch for their requirements, as they may vary. Some expats have successfully opened accounts with minimal documentation and assistance from embassies or agents.

We went to the embassy in chaing mai when we had our 3 months visa you just tell them you want to open a bank account , you gather the information that they need and we opened one.

That's not a thing. There is no lease requirement to open a bank account. Each individual bank branch sets their own requirements for an account. You have to go ask the bank you want to open an account what their requirements are. Be warned that this may changed depending on who you talk to or what day of the week it is.

Also, the DTV is a tourist visa, and most banks will just outright reject you regardless of any documentation you have. You will most likely have to use an agent to be able to open a bank account.

an ED visa isnt a tourist visa and its very easy to open an account on an ED visa, youre comparing apples to oranges. The vast majority of people opening banks on tourist visas are having to use an agent because of banking regulation changes over the last few years. The vast majority of banks will outright refuse anyone on a tourist visa or its equivalent, sure you probably can find a bank that will accept it, but it's going to take you days on end and probably more money than paying an agent as the ones that do, will likely require you to purchase insurance.

many, many reports over the last 1-2 months from people being turned away from banks with an education visa.

Yes I understand they are different but I have had student visa friends be told no and rejected only to be approved across the street. Same for a friend on a tourist visa going bank to bank in the mall. 🤷‍♂️ Might take a little more time and effort but some people do prefer to try. I wasn’t supposed to be able to get residency certificate and motorcycle green book all done on my initial tourist visa either but it all worked out.
