Hi!

Does anyone knows how much you need to have minimum on the balance of your bank statement when applying to a tourist visa in Penang?

Online it says 20000 or 10000. I heard a 60000 from a “supposedly reliable person”. Is there an up to date rule?

In addition is there a minimum TBH cash that need to carry when entering at the border?

Thanks for the help!

TLDR : Answer Summary
The bank balance requirement for a tourist visa in Penang seems to fluctuate based on various sources. While some claim you need at least 10,000 to 20,000 baht as indicated by official websites, others suggest that agents recommend having between 50,000 to 80,000 baht held for the last three months. Additionally, when entering Thailand as a tourist, a cash amount of 20,000 baht or its equivalent may be requested.

Agents are saying you require 50,000 to 80,000 baht in your bank for the previous 3 months

Penang but it's much the same for KL

Each consulate has their specific requirements. Unfortunately I can’t recall all of the local SE Asia ones but I believe Penang only asks for a set amount. Some require a set amount for the past three months.

Their website should tell you what is what’s needed.

I have three different bank statements of one of February, March, and April.

Do you think the best would be to print the 3 and they will mostly look at the last month total balance?

If there asking for 3 months then all 3 months must be at least the minimum there asking for

I've never heard of an embassy asking for 60,000. The websites are usually up to date. Maybe someone had recent experience.

If entering as a tourist you can be asked to show 20,000₿ or equivalent in another major currency in cash only.

by 20,000 do you mean on the balance of the bank statement or in cash when passing the border?

I mean if they ask to see this at the border it must be in cash only or they will deny entry and stamp your passport saying you do not have the funds to support yourself. It's rare that they ask but if they do it's because they want to deny entry.
