Hi :) When I apply for a tourist visa in Penang, do I need to show an entry flight ticket to Thailand or can I take a bus/ferry to Thailand?

Also, do I need to show a 3-month bank statement of how much?

(I'm Romanian if that helps in any way)

TLDR : Answer Summary
When applying for a tourist visa in Penang, it is generally required to show proof of an entry flight ticket to Thailand. However, a bus or ferry ticket can be sufficient if applying from a nearby country. Additionally, applicants are typically required to provide a bank statement showing a minimum balance of 20,000 THB. Note that requirements may vary based on the immigration officer's discretion.

If anything it could be a ticket out of Thailand

The question was into Thailand. You don’t need to have a ticket out for to apply for a tourist visa as long as you don’t apply for multiple entries. For visa exemption you need a ticket out within 30 days.

why would you need a ticket into Thailand once you pay and are issued a visa they could care less where you go depending on your history you can very well be asked for the 3 proofs one being a ticket out of Thailand within 60 days

Because the formal requirement for achieving a tourist visa is to have a ticket into Thailand when you apply for a tourist visa but there’s no formal requirement to have a ticket out. The question was if a bus ticket was sufficient.

Actually a ticket out of Thailand is required. I was just wondering if they wanted to know how and when I'm entering Thailand

the departing ticket must show that you are leaving within 60 days from entering (regardless the fact that you can extend the stay permit for 30 more days)

This is from thai embassy in Norway but the requirements are the same. We of course need to show a flight ticket, but a bus ticket should be sufficient as long as you apply for a visa from a neighbour country. You need to show proof of minimum 20 000 thb.

why do you insist that you are right? You are WRONG. The requirements to obtain a Tourist Visa at the Royal Thai Consulate General on Penang is that he has to show both a ticket entering and a ticket leaving Thailand within 60 days (regardless of the fact that he can extend for 30 days)

Because I don’t know the specific practice in this particular office in Penang, but I applied for and got a tourist visa at the thai embassy in Oslo Norway before Christmas and they just required a ticket and date into Thailand.

it is different in other parts of the World, the question was about Penang, and this consulate is known for their unfriendliness and their strict handling of requirements

Ok, thanks for letting me and us know. I didn’t know and we don’t need to show proof of a ticket out unless we apply for a multiple entries tourist visa.
