TLDR : Answer Summary
There is no maximum limit on the amount of cash you can bring into Thailand; however, amounts exceeding THB 500,000 or the equivalent of USD 20,000 must be declared upon arrival. Various users suggest exchanging currency in Thailand for better rates, and some recommend using reputable exchange services like Super Rich or Siam Exchange. There is a common practice of bringing cash in local currencies and exchanging them upon arrival to avoid poor exchange rates.
unlimited. Must be declared for import from 15.000.- US Dollar up. Also declaration needed for taking out of the U.K. if more than 10.000.- Pound Sterling

The best rates are from Superrich ( Usualy a bit better than the banks ( Though there is a wider choice of Bank branches )

Better rates to change currency at the banks in Thailand. Just bring minimal amount of bht from home to see you ok for the first night and transport costs. ๐

I do agree, I get a small amount at my local bureau de change in the UK , I then use Superich in Bangkok . My last visit in September /October there rate was 43.5?
Why anyone would even think of bringing that amount of money in cash into Thailand is beyond me, my mind boggles at times, bank transfers is so easy, and not expensive at all, but each to their own I suppose.
absolutely correct, because the difference of exchanging cash at the best exchangers in Thailand (like Superrich or Siam Exchange) against a transfer by WISE or Remittly, is rather marginal only. However you need a Thai bank account for this

interesting read! WISE says, that actually you can find the WRONG information about the "20,000.- USD" all over the internet. However WISE admits, that the ACTUAL Thai Customs law is, that every cash amount exceeding 15.000.- USD must be declared . . . . . . .
Charge as many places u can with your credit card , hopefully u have a good card that does screw u over with exchange rates ... this will give u actual record of your spendings ... almost every place in Thailand will use "" scan "" ... look into it ...

here's the answer . . .. Keep in mind, there is a limit for taking currency out of the U.K. undeclared

Send money to a Thai account before you get there. I use an ATM at my Thai bank.

Thai Immigration has absolutely nothing to do with this question, it can only be found on the Thai customs webpage. And there sadly is no information to be found regarding currency import. It can only be found on SOME embassy websites
As Stuart said no Max, I brought in $50k aud and declared it. I also carried proof of withdrawal from my Australian bank to avoid money laundering questions.
I got hassled at Sydney departing for Thailand with only 7k aud.
Money belt came up on the scanner.after they checked it I was followed to the flight gate and basically stalked by plain clothes authorities. I could see the idiots talking in the mic thingy. Heard one of them say he's sitting eating an apple. And that was me. Crazy
and if you declare it you them have to prove where and how you got it . I came on Monday had 11k on me no drama . But only have to be unlucky once mate .

There is no maximum amount of cash. Anything above 500k baht or the equivalent of US$20,000 in foreign currency would need to be declared on arrival.
I took 16k and declared it at customs they kindly walked through to departure lounge with me and checked that all was ok so that was my experience actual fact
this is no official website, and it is wrong. I posted an actual picture of the official Thai Customs, why do you bring up an advertorial website? . . . . why would you believe in a bogus website that tries to fool you by calling itself website.go.th ? This website was NOT created by the Thai government
i used to arrive with 50.000.- Euros in Cash . . . intended as payment for large bunks of wholesale jewelry. The advantage of exchanging with private money changers, compared to a bank transfer, was for real. It would be a difference of nearly 1000.- Euro
