TLDR : Answer Summary
When entering Thailand, you can carry up to 20,000 USD (or its equivalent in other currencies) without needing to declare it. For Thai baht specifically, the maximum cash limit is around 500,000 baht. If you exceed these amounts, declaration upon entry is required. Some travelers suggest that while checks may not be consistent, it’s crucial to carry a bank statement or receipt if you're carrying large sums to prove its source, especially due to money laundering concerns.

In Sweden or Denmark it’s more likely that you get pulled aside at the security checkpoint and have to explain where the money is coming from….

500,000 baht is the max cash

Must be a trick question One would've thought if as you stated you are coming back you must have already been to Thailand therefore you should already know the answer right

Bring UK pounds and use TTExchange. They offer a really good rate. As far as maximum value, I believe the equivalent of 9000 euros is the limit but I’ve carried more and never been challenged. Just make sure that you can show exactly where you withdrew the money and carry the bank statement showing the withdrawal. As long as it’s legal then you’re generally ok in my experience but I wouldn’t declare it up front, just wait to get challenged and have all the answers necessary. Cheers

@Darren ******
I’ve brought over 20k usd exchanged at super rich always outside airport for slightly better rate. To get by taxi food for arrival exchange 100$ only downstairs at super rich at airport once in Bangkok. But to answer your question 10,000baht to 1mil baht however much you can safely fit in your purse or fanny pack without loosing.

Airports use sniffer dogs all the time for hand luggage and bags in the hold

Is it worth having all that cash confiscated for non declaration?

Welcome not carrying over more 800,000 🇹🇭 THB.

, agree, but some countries don’t allow so much leaving the country ( example Belgium is 10.000 euro)
Peter ****************
@Janin *****
Klopt. NL ook. Het is natuurlijk al vrij vreemd als je 500,000฿ hebt. Maar je kunt dit gewoon aangeven bij de douane (in NL. België ook denk ik).
Janin ******
@Peter ***************
idd, aangeven is het eenvoudigste, je betaald er dan toch geen tax op.

If you already HAVE Thai Baht, it's 500,000฿ max I think.

I typed your exact question into Google and immediately got the correct answer. When you ask questions like this here, you often get answers that are half irrelevant, a quarter wrong, and you have to sift through them to find what's good."
Mark ***********
@ปีเตอร์ ******
but that’s the fun of it!!!
Iain *********
@ปีเตอร์ ******
I pasted the OP's original question into Google and the first answer came from the Wise website and said 500,000 baht. The second answer was from
******************
and said 50,000 baht.

Google is no more reliable than this group.
ปีเตอร์ *******
@Iain ********
wrong . 1. If you want to take out money from Thailand “For Thai currency (Baht), any person can bring total amount not exceed THB500,000 to any Thailand's bounded countries and not exceed THB50,000 to any destination countries”

2. If you want to enter Thailand “Thailand has cash restrictions to keep their financial system strong and fight crime. Travelers can bring in a maximum of ฿50,000 Thai baht.

Read carefully
Iain *********
@ปีเตอร์ ******
this is what Google gave me from Wise

"

You can bring up to 500,000 Thai baht into Thailand. "

Read it carefully.

****************************************************

It may well be wrong which would prove my point that Google is mo more reliable than this group

certainly prior to Covid I knew 2 people who almost missed their flights in UK, scan luggage machine picked up on the cash, passengers taken to office as they requested evidence where it came from. So ensure it's not from under the pillow, but withdrawn from banks and you carry the receipt, all about money laundering
Paul ********
@Sylvia *******
only if it exceeds 10,000 $/£

The imaging device operators are trained to spot bundles of currency that are in extreme excess of $20k or other currency equivalents. So while you may get away with 22.....23.....25k, the risk of being caught with, say 30k, is quite high.
Mark ********
@Tohksic *****
I must be doing something right. As I said I have never been pulled aside..and I have routinely carried a lot of cash thru immigration. I will continue to do so. It is mine. Ive earned it and I paid tax on it.

It’s cash equal to 20K USD into Thailand. You’ll have to check how much you can bring out yourself. In US is 10K USD.
John ********
@Jan *****************
I believe THB has a limit of 500K in hard cash
Rob **********
Any amount over 20,000USD you are required to declare it upon entering Thailand.
Lynnette *******
I bring UK money and change after I arrive, to get best exchange rate. I don't bring Thai baht.
Ron **********

Google is your friend...sort of
Lynnette *******
@Ron *********
what do I need to Google? I know the amount. I only said I don't bring Thai baht, which was a comment about part of his question.
Ron **********
@Lynnette ******
oops...my response was intended for another post ,sorry

@Ron *********
that's ok. Ralph Tyson is outraged I didn't answer each aspect of the question in a way he approves, so thought you might be like him. Be glad you're not!

doesn't matter which currency. Rules are same on declaring
Lynnette *******
@Ian ****
I know rules are same.
Lynnette *******
@Ian ****
I never mentioned the amount. I said I don't bring Thai baht.
Ralph *******
@Lynnette ******
And how did that answer the question?
Lynnette *******
@Ralph ******
go challenge other folk who didn't answer the question exactly how you want. There's several guys have posted comments, so go reply to them. Or is it only women you like to target.
Ralph *******
@Lynnette ******
No. I’m happy to criticise anyone, regardless of gender or race. You failed to answer the question so I commented on your post. If you think being a woman gives you immunity, then you’re wrong.
Lynnette *******
@Ralph ******
don't need immunity. Never have. Never will. But I'm waiting for you to criticise others who didn't answer exactly how you expect, not just me. I answered the part of the question I wanted to, and someone else wrote the next bit about the maximum which I was going to add. My choice was not to keep repeating it. You want to police the page for posts that don't fulfil your particular exacting demands so scroll through the rest and please challenge them. Even though it's a bit pathetic.
Ralph *******
@Lynnette ******
Just look through the post. I was way ahead of you there.
Tony *********
@Lynnette ******
where do you change it?
Ian ********
@Tony ********
I found that the one in MBK gave the best exchange rate, at least for the Australian dollar.
Tony *********
@Ian *******
