My original post was declined... but I'm still a tad confused & really hoping for clarification on what the difference is between applying for a non-O based on marriage from an embassy VS applying at your local immigration. Hoping someone can help. Thanks in advance.

TLDR : Answer Summary
The post addresses confusion regarding applying for a Non-O visa based on marriage, comparing the process of applying from an embassy versus applying locally at immigration in Thailand. Comments provide insights that include the conditions of the visa, potential requirements such as showing funds depending on the application location, and an alternative suggestion for applying for a tourist visa first followed by the Non-O visa application in Thailand.

To be completely honest, IF you are a foreign female married to a thai guy, just get a single entry tourist visa, come in, and then apply first for the 90 day Non-O visa based on marriage and then the year extension. You can do BOTH inside the country at the immigration office the 90 day Non-O costs 2000baht and the year extension costs 1900baht

would this approach be same if instead i just enter on a visa exempt? i am canadianโ€ฆ should have included that in my OP. thank you for your help, super appreciated. ๐Ÿ™

, entering on visa exempt process is same to entering on Tourist visa process. Just you need to be careful you have less days allowed to stay in Thailand when you enter Visa-exempt.

thanks, yes, I believe I must go to immigration to apply for non-O with no less than 21 days left on the visa exempt. not sure if that will change since they will be giving 45 day exempts starting October, which is when I am coming back from Canada. Anyway. I'd go to immigration as soon as I'm back. ๐Ÿ™‚ Thanks for your help.

come in after Oct 1st and you will get 45 days and then you need to get to your immigration office and get the process started, I said get a tourist visa because I had no idea when you were coming OR what your nationality was because that'd buy you 60 days

works like this

- enter on a tourist visa get stamped in for 60 days

during that time GO to your immigration office with your thai husband and get the hand out listing the requirements for getting the 90 day Non-O visa based on marriage to a thai

- when you have about a month or so left on your 60 day tourist stamp GO and apply for the 90 day Non-O, pay 2000baht

you'll get a receipt that says to come back in between 14 and 20 days

- go back get the Non-O visa and a new 90 day stamp inked in

THEN you wait until you have 30 days left on that stamp

- go apply for the year extension based on marriage for 1900baht (GET the sheet from your office listing those requirements when you go back to get the Non-O inked in because they're not the same as what you just used ๐Ÿ˜ฎ )

You will get a 30 day under consideration stamp

- go back on that date and they will ink in the year extension

if you want to you would buy a re-entry permit (single or multiple) after you get the extension so you could come in and out during that year and not lose your extension

That's how it works going from a 60 day tourist visa to first a Non-O 90 day visa and then a year extension based on marriage to a thai at your immigration office in country.

How about stating what country you come from and what embassy you'd be applying for the 90 day Non-O at?

Also remember IF you get a year-long, multi-entry Non-O visa at a thai consulate in another country that visa ONLY stamps you in for 90 days at a time (although the visa is good for a year) meaning when that 90 days runs out you exit/re-enter the country to get another 90 day stamp and you do that the entire time the visa is valid for every 3 months.

apologies haha, passport is canadian and for the thai embassy option, would be from vancouver thai consulate OR ottawa thai embassy

Some embassy's might require insurance

depending on which embassy/consulate you apply, you may not have to show funds. If you apply in Thailand you will have to show funds having come in from abroad. (applies only to foreign men with Thai ladies, not foreign ladies with Thai men)

haha yes i am a canadian female married to thai male. thanks for your help. ๐Ÿ™

@Lloyd *******
the O/P appears to be a female which leads me to believe they are married to a thai male making NO proof of funds required inside the country to get the 9 day non-O or the year extension
