Hi everyone, I need some information regarding Thai NON-O marriage visa.

I know this topic has been covered over and over already, but I keep getting mixed answers and I'm asking for some clarification.

My situation:

Currently in Thailand on a 30 days Visa extension from a 30 days visa exemption stamp on arrival.

Italian passport, got married here to my Thai wife 2 weeks ago.

Today I went to Immigration Office in Chiang Mai to ask what I can do at this point in order to get a NON-O 90 days marriage Visa.

They gave me the paper attached here, and they said that the only way I could get the Visa now is by leaving the country and applying for it from an embassy abroad. Plus, they said that I have to show proof of income or 400000฿ in a Thai bank account under my name with at least 2 months history (which I thought was a requirement for 1year visa only).

I take that as correct information as it was given by a Thai officer, but I read on this group that some people even converted their tourist visa from an IO in the country.

Please help me understand this better, and if you can I'd be happy to hear your advice on what the best option i for me now / your experience if you were in a similar situation.

Thanks a lot everyone, I really appreciate your time and help.

TLDR : Answer Summary
An Italian passport holder married to a Thai citizen needs to clarify the process to apply for a Non-O marriage visa. Currently holding a 30-day visa extension, the individual was informed by the Chiang Mai Immigration Office that they must leave Thailand to apply for the visa at an embassy, along with proving income or a Thai bank balance of 400,000฿ with necessary history. However, opinions in the community suggest alternative options, including applying at specific consulates in Vietnam without financial proof or converting the visa within Thailand if certain conditions are met. Clarification and shared experiences from other expats point towards various pathways to achieving the desired visa.

I just deleted the discussion and close this topic.

I do not mind to discuss and if I'm wrong i will say sorry, but getting smileys as answer and absolute none fact to proof that you need to apply in your home country or residence for the Non Immigrant O visa, there is not much else to do.

If a person is bored and just loves to troll, so be it.

This means you have several options to continue:

1. make a border run for a new 30 day Visa Exempt Entry and next morning visit the Immigration Office for the conversion.

2. Visit a Thai Consulate and apply for the Single Entry Non Immigrant O visa based on being married to a Thai National and get 90 days on entry, visit after 60 days the Immigration Office and apply for the 1 year Extension of Stay.

3. Visit a Thai Consulate and apply for the 1 year Multiple Entry Non Immigrant O visa based on being married to a Thai National and get 90 days on entry, do border runs until the valid until date, you can get almost 15 months out of this and then apply for the 1 year Extension of Stay.

4. Visit the Immigration Office apply for the 60 days to visit your family, and make an appointment for the conversion to the Non Immigrant O visa and after that the 1 year Extension of Stay.

To do a conversion in Chang Mai you need at least 21 days left on your stay, as you mention you have only 19 days left on this Extension of Stay, it can not be done and you have to leave the country.

everything from Number 7. on, on this paper, you do not need when you apply for a Non-Imm-O Visa based on marriage either 90 days SE or Multi Entry 1-year on the consulates of Savannakhet or Ho Chi Minh. In Vietnam you have to pay the visa fee with crisp clean US dollars, though. No proof of financials needed in these two consulates
