TLDR : Answer Summary
The conversation discusses options for expats staying in Pattaya for 60 days without a visa extension. Although some responses suggest extending the stay by paying 1900 baht at Jomtien Immigration for a 30-day extension, others mention border run options, with Cambodia's border being the closest. Additionally, advice on border run companies and the implications of using certain borders like Poipet is given, emphasizing the ease and affordability of extensions compared to border runs. A travel experience to Siem Reap is also shared as a possible alternative.
I did this last year. You can go to an agent and get a ticket to Siem Reap, Might have cost about 2k but forget. You will change bus a couple time but its all very easy to do. And its a vey nice town and of course do Angkor while there. Every time someone asks this everyone says just go to Immigration, but a side trip like this can be the highlight of your trip, was for me.
I use an agent on Soi 6, beach road, Pattaya. They're located in the back The Victorian restaurant. Border bounce is something like 3500 and the extension is 4500, your choice. Its about 8-9 hours round trip, they leave at 5:00 or 6:00 in the morning.
There are several Land border companies in Pattaya who will escort you to the Ban Laem border in some hours every day. Approximately 250 km and in price range 3-4000 baht including everything and lunch.
But;
If you apply for a 60 days tourist visa online at home before you leave or arrive without any visa on a 30 days visa exemption. You can easily extend both with additional 30 days at the immigration in Jomtien.
And;
If you need additional time after the extension, a border run makes sense.
Why would you go through the time and expense rather than get an extension?
Also the closest border is not one you want to use. They deny entry to tons of people at the Poipet border who try and do their own border bounce there. Those people are then forced to go to Siem Riep and fly back to Thailand.
Seems much easier, faster and cheaper to just go to the immigration office.
I don't know the specifics of Jomtien except that you can only apply during your last week for a tourist extension. Pretty sure they require a TM30 though as they're one of the nost ridiculous immigration offices in Thailand.
