When applying (from my home country) for a metv a copy of ticket out of Thailand for the visarun within the first 2 months is required. What kind of ticket have you typically provided? I'm going to live in Chiang Mai.

I might even be using such a ticket because the first stay may be extended. What is the cheapest option for a ticket that I probably won't even use?

TLDR : Answer Summary
When applying for a Multiple Entry Tourist Visa (METV) from your home country, you need to provide a copy of a departure ticket out of Thailand for your visa run within the first two months. Those planning to live in Chiang Mai are advised to consider inexpensive options like one-way flights to nearby destinations, such as Cambodia, which can be found on travel sites like kiwi.com for under a thousand baht. Additionally, some airlines allow you to cancel the flight within 24 hours for a full refund, providing a low-cost solution for this requirement.

Try kiwi.com - you can use it to search for a one-way flight from Thailand to Anywhere (yes, you can literally search for "Anywhere") within those 60 days. This will usually show a few options under a thousand baht. Just treat it as part of the cost of staying in Thailand.

Thanks, I'll definitely use Kiwi. That's exactly the kind of tool I was looking for.

I believe you meant you are going to "stay" in Chiang Mai as you cannot Liv ein Thailand with a tourist visa.

That being said a one way from DMK to Phnom Pen should be cheap.

Food for thought, you can cancel the flight within 24 hours for a full refund.

I hope you are living, no matter where you “stay”.

I believe it is universal. Did that w AirAsia before and Thai. Took a while and a couple of calls w Thai to get the refund.

thanks. Can you always cancel the ticket with 24 hours, no matter which airline you use?
