Bangkok Expats. A Bangkok Teacher is fighting for his life.

Rh-Negative is Extremely Rare in the Thai population. There is Zero, or very few units, of Rh-Negative blood throughout Thailand.

The Western population has a high percentage. It is why you are seeing requests for blood donations frequently.

If you are from a Western Country, please donate. Even if you do not know your blood type. Most people do not know. Your donation will be used by someone, whatever your blood type may be.

TLDR : Answer Summary
There is an urgent need for blood donations, particularly for Rh-Negative blood, in Bangkok. Rh-Negative blood is extremely rare among the Thai population, prompting frequent requests for donations, especially from Western expats. The National Blood Centre located on Henri Dunant Rd is currently accepting donors, especially those from the UK, France, and Ireland. Several guidelines exist for donating, such as age restrictions and health requirements. Additionally, locations like the Emporium Mall also facilitate donations. Community members are encouraged to contribute, even if they are unsure of their blood type, as all donations will help those in need.

Please set up a collection in koh lanta! So many people willing to donate, I, myself is A negative. Driving to krabi on a scooter just isn't safe, and driving back after giving blood is even less so!

try to find a red cross near to your place and inform them that you want to donate blood for this patient, they will coordinate this to the hospital where this patient confined.

Thank you ๐Ÿ˜Š

If you are from the United Kingdom ๐Ÿ‡ฌ๐Ÿ‡ง, France ๐Ÿ‡ซ๐Ÿ‡ท or Ireland ๐Ÿ‡ฎ๐Ÿ‡ช and lived there from 1980-1996... those years of the mad cow disease. Then the only location is the National Blood Centre on Henri Dunant Rd. Near Sam Yan metro. They are specially processing the blood

If you were not there during those years, I think the Emporium Mall may be your closest. There is a red cross location somewhere in that mall. I have only been to the National Blood Centre.

Hello,i have Rh- and happy to donate.35 Years old.Im in Koh Phangan till month end though,not Bangkok.

Thank you Nikki. Unfortunately, Koh Phangan doesn't have a blood bank. Samui does... but we cannot transfer the blood from Samui to Bangkok.

Since you are Rh-Negative- and we always need donors - is it possible for you to donate in Bangkok? Or even in Samui, to have a unit banked.

That is perfect,i can supply both and hopefully help someone back๐Ÿ™

I can only donate 4 times per year, assuming that I am in Thailand the entire year

I'm an Expat Volunteer for Rh-Negative awareness and donations.

It's my advocacy that brings in more donors than what I personally can.

Please encourage any eligible Westerner you may know to donate

. The regions impacted by the vCJD disease are the UK, France and Ireland. From 1980 to 1996.

Most countries in the World do not accept those donors.

Every other country is not restricted, such as the USA, Germany, China, etc... as these areas were not Variant Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease areas. "Mad Cow Disease".
Thailand *********************************
ORIGINAL POSTER
@Suzanne *****
Donors from the UK who lived during mad cow disease period in that region are nor accepted by the majority of the World.

Thailand does accept. Only at the National Blood Centre in Bangkok due to special processing
Suzanne ******
@Thailand ********************************
so if this person needs blood and we are Canadian or USA why are u saying only France or ireland? Makes no damn sense.
Thailand *********************************
ORIGINAL POSTER
@Suzanne *****
IF someone is from the UK France or Ireland they can donate at the National Blood Centre on Henri Dunant Rd ONLY. Special processing for blood.

Everyone else, can donate at any Thai Red Cross location anywhere in Thailand

last time was at the Red Cross, so I then went to the St Louis where the patient was to be told they already had the blood.

By Bangkok do you mean the Red Cross.? Will they accept a 75 yr old who has not previously donated here.?

I checked. Case is still open. He did receive some blood.... needs more.

In case anyone is reading this.

The National Blood Centre is accepting donors from the UK, France and Ireland

Age limit is 60 for first-time donor, 70 for previous donor in Thailand.

Thank you for trying. Yes, I heard that this man recently received a unit.

We are keeping the case open

1. He may need more

2. To replenish the reserves he may have used. The Thai Red Cross keeps a very minimal supply on hand.

Farang over 60 years canโ€™t donate blood I have O negativ and was send home to old maybe need a change in Direktion ?
Suzanne ******
@Bagsida ********
omg O negative means u can give to anyone...and no matter what age they should take this
Thailand *********************************
ORIGINAL POSTER
@Suzanne *****
Age Restrictions are put in place by almost every country in the world. Those countries that do not specifically write age limits, will disqualify older first-time donors.

As we age our ability to replenish red blood cells reduces. It is to protect the donor's health.

Every Country has rules to protect both the Donor's Health and the Patient's health.

Your not making sense

This is the donor registration form from the Thai Red Cross. Question #35.

If you lived in the UK, France or Ireland from 1980 to 1996, you were certainly exposed to the spike protein that causes "mad cow disease". Variant Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease is the correct term. If you check YES to question #35, then you may ONLY donate at the National Blood Centre in Bangkok on Henri Dunant. They are specially processing the blood. Because of the Variant Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease.

Everyone else, who did NOT live in the effected region, may donate at ANY Thai Red Cross location. In Phuket, or the Thai Red Cross location in Bangkok at the Emporium Mall, etc.

This is why the instructions in the post read

"Donors from the United Kingdom ๐Ÿ‡ฌ๐Ÿ‡ง, France ๐Ÿ‡ซ๐Ÿ‡ท and Ireland ๐Ÿ‡ฎ๐Ÿ‡ช who lived in the vCJD "mad cow disease time-frame" from 1980-1996 are Welcomed Back at the National Blood Centre in Bangkok on Henri Dunant Rd ONLY. Special processing for blood.

still what difference does it make what country citizen gives blood. If iam canadian and need blood...doesnt need to be Canadian blood jeesus give me korean blood, australian, thai, german as long as i live

In Canada we dont discriminate on what nationality you are..we take all blood because people are human.
Thailand *********************************

@Suzanne *****
Canada does not accept donors from the United Kingdom, France or Ireland.

It isn't "discrimination".

Thailand does accept. They are one of the first non-European countries to do so.

However, only at the National Blood Centre in Bangkok that has the capability to process the blood. Smaller blood banks do not have the capability

come to Canada and they dont care where u are you from...YOU CAN DONATE get ypur facts straight

I am an Expat Volunteer who is trying to save someone's life.

We need eligible donors who live in Thailand.

I have listed the eligibility requirements on the post and have informed those donors from the United Kingdom,France and Ireland who may have lived in the vCJD areas, that they are Welcomed Back at the National Blood Centre

I fully appreciate your suggestion that people fly to Canada to donate. However, that doesn't help the patient here.

@Thailand ********************************
duhjhhh i meant have Canadians and USA citizens donate too in thailand.....wow you really dont get it do you....and maybe then u might save more lives.

If you can't donate, advocate... Even commenting on a post (like you have done here) will extend it's reach. If you share the post to your expat friends and communities, that will also do a lot. If you can contribute to the education of others about the challenges our community faces regarding rare blood types in this region, and can help to convert even one person in to a regular donor, you are saving lives.
