Bangkok... A- blood donation request.

Rh-Negative is extremely Rare in the Thai population. Please contact Karen if you are A-.

If you are Western, please donate anyway. 25% to 15% of the Western population is Rh-Negative. Most people do not know their blood type.

We struggle to find donors for patients.

No Alcohol 24 hours prior

Under 60 if first time donor

Donors from the United Kingdom ๐Ÿ‡ฌ๐Ÿ‡ง, France ๐Ÿ‡ซ๐Ÿ‡ท and Ireland ๐Ÿ‡ฎ๐Ÿ‡ช are Welcomed Back at the National Blood Centre in Bangkok on Henri Dunant Rd.

TLDR : Answer Summary
There is a call for A- (Rh-Negative) blood donors in Bangkok, as this blood type is rare in the Thai population. Western expats, who have higher Rh-Negative rates, are encouraged to donate, particularly at the National Blood Centre on Henri Dunant Road. It is recommended that donors abstain from alcohol for 24 hours prior to donating and that first-time donors be under 60. However, there are mentions of difficulties regarding eligibility for UK citizens due to regulations, as indicated by user comments.

Can you donate anywhere in Thailand if not banned because of mad cow disease?

Hi Johnny

Currently only at the National Blood Centre on Henri Dunant Rd in Bangkok. They are accepting the packed red blood cells only. Requires special processing. It's the most in-demand part.

(The UK was sourcing plasma, a component of blood, from outside the UK up until 2021)

Yes, you can donate at any local Red Cross.

I am not familiar with Saraburi... I Googled it and it appears there is a Red Cross in Saraburi.

I'm an expat... A volunteer to spread Rh-Negative awareness in our communities.

Hello , just to say koh Samui blood bank is still not aware of the new rules for UK citizens to donate. I enquired and got a email back saying I wasn't eligible.

Thanks ๐Ÿ™

Hi Russell. Thank you for responding. And for asking about the Samui Blood Bank. Thank you for your help.

Currently only the National Blood Centre in Bangkok on Henri Dunant Rd is accepting previously deferred donors from the UK.

They are taking the Red Blood Cells only, which requires special processing.

Blood is made up of Red Blood Cells, Plasma, White blood cells and platelets. The UK was sourcing plasma from outside the vCJD (mad cow disease) impacted areas up until 2021.

I don't know if Samui Nathon Government Hospital will be able...

I posted this on our Rh-Negative Facebook Group. (Its fine that you called ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ™, we didn't want hundreds of Group members calling)

This is Preeda... you have spoken to me before
