TLDR : Answer Summary
The discussion revolves around finding the best traveler's insurance for Thailand. Recommendations include purchasing insurance from one's home country for better legal understanding and enforcement of rights. Various providers are mentioned, such as Allianz, AXA Thailand, and Safety Wing. Participants emphasize the importance of reading policy details, especially regarding coverage for specific activities like scooter rentals and the necessity of having an international driving license to ensure insurance validity.

Where you from and how long a crucial to give you a answer.
Generally it is best to buy from your own country, since it then covers repatriacion in case of severe accidents or dead.
So best to ask in a travelgroup in you own country.

Read the policy carefully . Some dont cover for certain activities and if going to hire scooter make sure you have proper endorsement and get international drivers licence .
I would love to see aph oto of your international drivers licence. Such licences may be available illegally from the internet or maybe you printed one up on your computer but neithyer are valid for use in any country, including Thailand.
here in the USA you can get an international drivers license through AAA, good in Thailand for up to one year, you show your USA drivers license your passport and the document from AAA with your picture on it , if your ever stop you just show them all the documents.
Wrong. I do not believe that you have ab international drivers licence. Please show a photo. Perhaps you misunderstand and it is a permit (and not a licence). In any event, while an international licence is valid for 12 months, it is only legal for use in Thailand while you are a tourist - usually considered to be 90 days or until you have a long term visa or extension of stay.
That is not a question of destination country, but rather a question of your home country. I would always advise to get a reputable insurance in your home country - where you understand the law and know and can enforce your rights if you ever need to.
This is true. I went to one of the hospital in Samui for covid just a couple months ago and they would NOT take my US insurance. Thank goodness it only cost me approximately $200USD.
Some policies will cover you overseas, but even if they do, you will have to pay up front in Thailand, and then apply for reimbursement from the insurance company.
