TLDR : Answer Summary
The discussion revolves around whether to buy travel insurance from Thailand or from the expat's country of origin. Responses suggest that Thai insurance may be more straightforward as it meets local requirements, especially for quarantine situations. Others recommend checking the specifics like COVID-19 coverage and motorbike accident clauses. Several users share their experiences with various insurance providers and advise selecting comprehensive plans that fulfill Thailand's requirements.

I took an insurance with my flight. Easy. Gave it to the embassy for my visa. Done

This is what you are covered for with Sainsbury’s travel insurance it covers you up to £10 million

@Brian *******
it's a bit contradictory over Covid cover 🤔

Normal UK travel insurance will cover you for the $50,000 cover that Thailand requires you to have I personally used Sainsbury’s travel insurance when I applied for my Thailand Pass (TP) a few months ago

When I did my visa extension I was to it had to be a Thai company so I had to buy it again. Use a thai one to be safe.

Look for a annual that covers asymptomatic covid quarantine or hospital. The rest is just bonus and if it covers more for things that can occur during travel or longer stays that is just good for all involved.

Insurance outside of Thailand seem to have a much higher monetary value

Up to you..

Thailand likes your money in thai banks. Thailand like your money in Thai insurance. Thailand likes your money there rather then your country, even though both work for you.

Some Thai insurance doesn't cover you for motorbike accidents. Choose wisely and read the small print.

He needs covid insurance

@Gar****
he needs comprehensive insurance that covers Covid and accidents. A friend of mine paid a lot of money for long stay Thai insurance but has discovered the hard way, it doesn't include motorbike accidents .

@Li**
He needs covid insurance, that's it... I'm sorry you friend doesn't know how to ride a bike.

@Gar****
He is actually professional moto cross rider and accident was caused by mechanical bike failure, but insurance should still cover bike accidents, even for beginners or make it very clear it doesn't. Not in the extra, extra small print. And taken a month , after 3 surgeries, and 4 weeks daily treatment, to be told that he's not covered. 🤷‍♀️

Thai insurance is better if you're forced to quarantine without symptoms, either will work though. If you use a foriegn insurance, they need to give you a letter

They're all pretty much the same for the covid policy. I used insubuy, just because it was the cheapest at the time. Looks like they raised their prices though

Can do both. Or fly emirates, get one for free there. I payed 20$ in germany to get that covered and have that emirates one on top.
