TLDR : Answer Summary
The conversation discusses recommendations for travel insurance providers for Australians traveling to Thailand. Participants suggest various companies such as Tickinsurance.com.au, Covermore, FastCover, and Southern Cross, each highlighting their experiences and coverage options. There's also advice regarding checking credit card insurance benefits, especially concerning trip delays and lost luggage. Important considerations such as coverage for specific activities (like motorcycle riding) and claim processes are mentioned.

I use FastCover as they are good at paying out on claims but due to covid will only cover one trip at a time.

A friend uses Southern Cross because he gets one policy that will last a full year for his multiple trips to phuket and when he did get hurt they flew him back to australia and paid for all costs with no hassle.

Make sure you add “motorcycle” if you are even just considering being a passenger or you won’t have that cover .

Fastcover also give you an option for some cover for hire car excess.

BTW - Many major Credit Cards also include free limited Travel Insurance when you book your travel on the card -- e.g. Trip Delay, Lost Luggage etc. Check your Bank Card's website for details. I've successfully made claims in past and been reimbursed, though not without a lot of pushing.

covermore is a reasonable company but if missing a flight is your fault then I think your stuffed from claiming. Not an expert as never missed a flight by my fault

Likewise, if not his fault and fault of airline, then he can claim reimbursement from airline.

Ya, b/c like you said didn't have a receipt (and it happened over 5 years ago????). btw -- just b/c an airline denies your claim, isn't the end of the road. That's what Courts are for.

I've always used Tickinsurance.com.au but have never made a claim so I'm not sure how they handle claims
