TLDR : Answer Summary
The conversation discusses various recommendations for reasonably priced travel insurance required for obtaining a tourist visa in Thailand. Users share experiences and suggest different insurance providers, such as American Express, Pacific Cross, and World Nomads. Some comments highlight the importance of reading the fine print and ensuring the insurance meets immigration requirements, while others emphasize that international plans may be cheaper compared to Thai insurance. The overall tone suggests that users are looking for affordable yet reliable options.

I did a lot of research a year or so ago. I found that once you read the fine print, you generally get what you pay for. So be wary.

Thanks Av, I will check this one out too. That sounds very cheap for a well known company.

i used american express and it was cheap only 100 for the a whole family
we do not have an American express card. perhaps you need that to get that deal? Upon going to the American Express for Thailand site - this is what we saw at the top.

Don't you normally travel with insurance, if so that's all you need (if indeed you do actually need it, from what country are you applying?).

I do not usually travel! Been so long. It is just a requirement from immigration - but they do not always ask for it.

By "cheap" do you mean a crap policy that doesn't cover you for anything? Or a half-decent policy that you can rely on? Contact this guy for the best advice
Never go through some of the brokers suggested here. They are not actually licensed but work off the licenses of others.... Ask to see the license in their name first.. Any company they would suggest you can apply directly with the company without having to go through these brokers at pretend to be licensed..
please be aware of the difference of primary coverage and secondary coverage. The two you mentioned above are secondary coverage carriers. They will only come into effect and pay out after you've exhausted primary coverage. You might want to consider a carrier such as Allianz that is primary coverage.. or something similar. Please Google the difference between primary and secondary coverage for travel insurance or any insurance for that matter
thank you Robert for your good advice! Much appreciated.

Sorry I meant Thai embassy - even when applying for tourist visa they can ask for your receipt for travel insurance for the entire length of your tourist visa.

to be honest we would not usually buy $300 plus travel insurance for such a trip - not that accidents and illness cannot happen, but it can be asked of you and that is why I would like a cheap plan because since Covid insurance prices have increased.
the embassy can require it but most don't. It may just be a required question on the application for other visa types. Try uploading an image that says "not applicable" and see if they accept it. If they don't they will email you asking for insurance.
hello and thanks for your insight. Yes I have heard that it is not always asked for. it seems like this for several types of requirements, but we are just trying to be prepared. Brandon can you just help me to understand exactly what you meant by "Try uploading an image that says "not applicable" and see if they accept it"? Thank you.
you are required to upload something. So write "not applicable" on a piece of paper and scan it, or just search Google for an image that says "not applicable" and upload it for that question
Hi Brandon so far my husband has not uploaded any documents and we have not been able to find anywhere to do this. If you have some time and are happy to help, please send a screen shot or link. Otherwise he will just be bringing in hard copies.
