Gotta do a border run from Chang Mai next month. Where is the best place to get a new/renewed visa from that end of the country?

Just to be clear, I will have been in the country for 30 days at that point. And I'm hoping to stay another 30!

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user is planning to do a border run from Chiang Mai after staying in Thailand for 30 days and is seeking information on where to best obtain a new or renewed visa. Comments suggest that while a border run to Mae Sai is a popular option, obtaining a 30-day extension at the immigration office in Chiang Mai for 1900 baht is also advisable. It is clarified that the initial 30 days were granted under a visa-exempt entry rather than a tourist visa. Further, while Mae Sai is mentioned for border runs, it lacks visa processing facilities on the Burmese side.

, your understanding is incorrect :/

There is no such thing as a 30 day tourist visa :O

IF you showed up here without having bought a visa from a thai consulate in your country before hand and were stamped in for FREE for 30 days you were stamped in on what's known as a 30 day visa exempt entry.

Be that as it may, you can go to the immigration office and get a 30 day extension for 1900baht at the immigration office.

After that you either go to a thai consulate in another country and BUY a single entry tourist visa OR you go to a border, stamp out of thailand, stamp in&out of another country and then back into thailand to get a new 30 day visa exempt entry stamp

Thanks for the info everyone!

So if I understand: since I am flying in from the us, and thus have the 30 day tourist visa, I should be able to apply for another 30 day extension at the office in Chiang Mai?

Yes youre right, you can go to chiang mai immigration office and extend it for 30 days

Mae Sai is good for border run, but you can not apply for a new visa there as there is no thai Office on the burmese side of the border. But border run should be fine and will probably give you 30 more days (depending on your nationality). Going to immigration Office in Chiang Mai to get an extension is also a good option!

Just go to the immigration office and make a extension, so you get 30 days more without making a boarder run and it cost 1900 baht

I am not clear what you are asking. Most from Chiang Mai do a border run to Mai Sai.

Border bounce Mae Sai, new visa Vientiane.

That's exactly the question. I just wanted to make sure they had offices there. (Mai Sai) and also to be sure that I was using the closest crossing.

Thanks!
