Hello ! Apparently if you never applied for a tourist visa extension before, you can get a 30 days extension, without an embassy letter, at the Pai immigration office. Anyone knows if you can do the same at Chiang Mai immigration office? Thank you ! 🙏

TLDR : Answer Summary
The discussion revolves around obtaining a 30-day extension for a tourist visa at immigration offices in Thailand, particularly comparing Pai and Chiang Mai. Participants confirm that Pai immigration is granting extensions without an embassy letter for those who have not previously extended their visa. There are mixed responses regarding whether Chiang Mai allows similar extensions under the same conditions, with advice to check directly with the specific immigration office due to varying policies and interpretations of current regulations.

Is it possible to get a 30 days extension (with or without letter) if there has been an application for extension in April but only with 1 stamp from BKK immigration saying: "issued 1 April, application of stay under consideration.....contact again in person 23 apr 2020" and then the amnesty went on.

and what was the reason you never went back and got that under consideration stamp "closed out"? Even though amnesty kicked in that's how those under consideration stamps work.

I see a trip to the immigration office out at the Muang Thong Thani location to see if you can get the extension or not, and if you need the embassy letter. It's just too new of a program so there is no real hard answer either way

I guess because some of their representatives said - "no need to come" as the amnesty went on.

But then again it might work that I have my second part of the first extension prolong till the amnesty ends and then get a second stamp. Unlikely but never know.

The only concern I have is - am I eligible to apply if I had an extension in the past but yeah will take a ride and see.

Good reason to go to Pai, what kind of documents do you need there?

post on a pai f/b page and ask your question. BUT realize you need to use an address IN the area covered by the Pai immigration office when you apply for an extension up there..

I'm glad I got my extension the day before the amnesty!

For others my Australian embassy issued me a letter, despite saying they won't on there website. It's not a sure thing though, if you have had an extension before they have been knocking people back even with a letter.

Its funny but my Australian Embassy letter was issued without a date on it 🤷🏽‍♂️

I don't think immigration can even read the letter personaly. Ours can bearly understand english.

Remember though, just because you have the letter doesn't mean the immigration office will let you stay until October 26

I have also not had any extensions. so hopefully that gives me a better shot.

What we are seeing is that some immigration offices ARE indeed allowing a 30 day extension (on both a 30 day visa exempt and/or a 60 day tourist visa entry) IF you never got it and instead entered and went directly to amnesty.

Unfortunately, not every office is doing it, and the offices that are doing it are not all starting the extension as effective the 26th of Sept (some are doing it effective the date you apply and telling people to come back closer to this current amnesty expiring).

The only sound advice (and I know it's not all that helpful) is to check with your specific immigration office to see exactly what they do and how they are handling it.:( :/

Is there an office closer to Bangkok that's giving out these extensions to a tourist visa without an embassy letter up to 26 October? For those in Bangkok a trip up to Pai is nice but somewhere closer would be a lot more convenient.

So @Pai you can get 30 days extension till 26 Oct ??

Mae Hong Son immigration are doing exactly as you say, giving extensions up to 26 October, because they are interpreting "amnesty" as a postponement of the expiry of your visa until 26 September, which means you are entitled to an extension beyond that as long as you have not already had one. I'm astonished there has not been a stampede of tourists up to Pai. Check in guesthouse, get TM30'd, get extension, job done, back to Chiang Mai or wherever.

This sounds nice. A lovely little tour as well.

I haven't seen any stamps myself from MHS showing they are actually giving out that extension, or for what reasons they give it out. Do you have any examples?

@Benjamin *****
I'd send you a link but that is not allowed on TVA ?

@Rory ********
Can you send it to me via message?

At the moment we see Extension of Stay stamps until 26 Sep, or Under Consideration until half Sep, but the back ground information, why these stamps are applied for and what is the visa history fails.

All we can say, go for it and good luck

@Sofiene ******
No,he mean until September 26, since the October 26 stamp isn't in the passport yet
