TLDR : Answer Summary
The discussion revolves around finding ways to perform a border run from Surathani Pier to Malaysia. Several users suggest that there is no direct bus, and instead recommend taking a train to Sungai Kolok or traveling via van from Surat Thani to bus or train stations leading to Malaysian borders like Dannok, Sadao, or Padang Besar. Alternatives like a border run to Ranong are also mentioned, with some travelers advising that this option might be opened again after COVID-19. Overall, the consensus is to consider various transportation methods while factoring in ease of immigration.

Van or songtaew to Surat Thani bus station or train station, then bus or train to Hat Yai, then van or train to either Dannok/Sadao or Padang Besar. Bus is faster, train is more fun. But I would say Dannok/Sadao is less hassle from immigration. Best to go down to Penang, Malaysia for a couple days if you are traveling as a tourist!

the Ranong border is open for a "border bounce"

now you just need somebody to organize this tour by a minibus or taxi, from Don Sak pier or Tai Pee pier. Or from Chumpon (Lomprayah pier)

well, its 350 km from Don Sak to Pedang Besar, google says 6 hours drive. It's 275 km to Ranong, 4,5 hours. Shortest is from Chumpon pier to Ranong
Nongnuch ********
100% you can call them

why not see if they have resumed the border runs to Ranong? \They offered them pre covid from Samui.

No such bus exists. It's a long trip and would take several transfers and silliness to save very little $. However, here is the cheap version

Imho no Bus. But you can take the train to Sungai Kolok. From there you can walk to the border or use motorbike taxi
