I’m heading off to Mae Sai next week for a boarder run – first time.

After returning to CM, can I then get a 30 day visa extension – like I did after arriving by air?

Like so …….

* Initial arrival by air > 30 day VOA

* Then 30 day extension at CM Immi – done

* Boarder run to Mae Sai > another 30 days (is this a VOA ?)

* Another another 30 day extension at CM Immi ?? This is my main point of concern

* Depart by air – total stay of 120 days

Many thanks people

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user is planning a border run to Mae Sai and wants to know if they can extend their stay upon returning to Chiang Mai. They mention their previous experience of getting a 30-day extension after arriving by air and seek confirmation on the steps for extending after a Visa Exempt Entry from Mae Sai.

Thanks fellas. That's put my mind at ease. And you're both right, it's a Visa Exempt Entry. I must be more careful/accurate with my terms. Saves a bucketful of confusion

Yes, you can do. And to answer the other question, it is not VOA but a Visa Exempt Entry.

you won't have any problem getting a 30 day extension on your new 30 day visa exempt entry at the Chiang Mai immigration office for 1900baht
