Hello fellow DTVers,

Which health insurance company do you recommend for being in Thailand on DTV (up 6 months in a year not to hit tax residency) - and not spend fortune on it.

Edit - any experience with Safety Wing?

Cheers,

Piotr

TLDR : Answer Summary
A user asks for recommendations on health insurance while in Thailand on a Digital Nomad Visa (DTV), seeking affordable options and sharing experiences with Safety Wing. Community members respond with suggestions, recommending providers like Genki, Allianz, and Cigna, while expressing mixed opinions on Safety Wing's effectiveness. Various personal experiences highlight the importance of coverage, ease of claims, and the necessity for a solid insurance option while staying in Thailand.

I use Safety WIngs. They are way better than the insurance company I used previously. I've had to claim once and it was super straightfoward to upload the documents onto their system. And I was paid pretty quickly too. I have their International Medical Insurance. Not their travel insurance.

The team at Tenzing Pacific Services have released this health insurance comparison website. You can compare international and local providers for your health insurance in Thailand here

I’ve been watching the packages with Safety Wing for years but when compared with what’s included and acceptance by hospitals that’s changed things. A lot depends on the policy coverage you want, how much you want to pay out if something happens. I’ve opted only for in patient as outpatient things are affordable enough/ aren’t covered.

I used to have Vumi and recently switch to Cigna which you can have as a TH/ UK “homes” for your policy and the global coverage is a worthwhile upgrade if you travel a lot.

If you are frequently traveling the best one for you is Genki.

AXA Thailand, can buy upto 6 months at a time but need to be outside of Thailand when you buy it as it’s considered as an inbound travel policy.

Allianz Ayodhya offers a proper private health insurance with 5 million baht coverage inside Thailand for

baht per year, no issues at any of the major hospitals here at Thailand

Again the premium depends on your age for mine it came to about 24k for the 5 mil cover

you can purchase it online but I would recommend you to use a broker, they don't charge you any commission and will assist you with everything even in emergency situations

Genki is a pretty common digital nomad health insurance provider:

I used them and received payouts fine. Even my doctor in Kamala has the Genki logo as a list of accepted payments hah

In your case i would take a travel insurance from your home country. sign a policy for the length of your stay. that will be a lot cheaper than the thai or expat or nomad insurance packages that people try to sell you here. in germany for examply i use a work, learn & travel policy from Allianz which costs me 1,25€ per day with full coverage. can even do up to 2 years on one contract.

@Dany *******
agree, i think it is the best option.. this or Safety Wing which is on a budget side

@Dany *******
What travel insurance allows You to stay away for 6 months at a time ?
Dany ********
@Expat *********
many travel insurances that have some work & travel packages. you can even take your normal travel insurance that is valid for around 50 days per trip and extend it. just talk with your travel insurance company what options they have… you do not need an expat insurance that will cost you hundrets per month

I’m wondering the same because I have a year policy but I am only covered for 45 days at a time.

Ive sent you a DM.

One thing has nothing to do with the other. If possible, I recommend you use an insurance from your own country, so it'd be easier to claim later (due to language and bank accounts).
