Inspired by a post I saw a few days ago, I also had an overstay about a week due to my flight being cancelled because of the conflict in the middle east. The fine was waived and they said it would be no problem next time I entered Thailand. Would be inteterested to hear people thoughts now they seem to be getting stricter at immigraration, and if anyone could translate the comments in my passport. Thanks.
Answer summary
A user shared their experience of a one-week overstay in Thailand due to a flight cancellation linked to the Middle East conflict. The immigration authorities waived their fine, assuring them that it would not affect future entries to the country. The community discussed the circumstances of the waiver, with many confirming that they would likely have no issues during re-entry. They also provided a translation of notes in the user's passport affirming the waiver and supportive comments regarding visa issues linked to similar situations.

Your original visa was valid until 16 Feb 26, you had already overstayed your visa when Trump's aggression against Iran started 28 Feb; by 12 days.

Hello may ask what information you had to provide for them to waive? Do they want to see your cancelled flight ticket ?

I think because of your circumstances. Not the same for ppl who willfully overstay.

You should always go to immigration to explain what happened till you can get another flight it happened to me and they gave a extra week to sort flight but you still pay a fine for overstaying pluss they will pull you when you return and they have to check records

I had once mixed up the departure by one day, they charged me 500b for it, but said no problem in the future, been back many times since..., you had exceptional circumstances..., otherwise they charge ..., but no future issue for a few days...

I had to overstay overnight because of conflict with cambodia I was in kap cheong district less than a Mile from the camobian border.. it was the last day of my 90 days. I travelled to laos and was fined 500 baht. I'm not a tourist abuser I was in the process of having my marriage visa reinstated.

It depends, when do you plan on going back to Thailand? Tomorrow, next week, next month or next year? Depends on your travel history, now if this is about to be let's say your 4th time in a year going to Thailand, it may raise some red flags with the IO. Now if you are thinking about will this affect me if I want go back to Thailand next year then likely will not be a factor.

This is an internal memorandum circulated within the Immigration Bureau regarding cases where foreign nationals are scheduled to depart the country with destinations in areas affected by armed conflict or war in the Arabian Peninsula. As a result of the conflict, flights may be delayed, canceled, or become unavailable for travel. Therefore, any overstay fines arising from such circumstances should be waived, as the situation is beyond the control of the traveler.

Accordingly, any overstay penalties resulting from such circumstances shall be waived, as the overstay is attributable to force majeure events beyond the traveler’s reasonable control.

Graham Seal It's a technicality, this does not count as an overstay (but they don't have any alternative stamp to give). IO gave the correct advice that it will not affect re-entry.

There was an exemption and waiver of overstay as the US/Iran conflict started doe airspace closure and flight cancelation. My Thai wife transited it as “overstay find waved”. I hope it helps. You should not have any problems when you come back.

Steven L. Daugherty another point I forgot to mention how do others just let immigration officials stamp and write within your passport and the user doesn’t ask is beyond us.

We tell Thai immigration we ask them please do not staple paper within the passport.

I highlight our passport control has issue with damage being inflected against the original passport.

Just a question, why you choose to overstay instead of going to immigration to extend the visa to 90 days?
Eric ***********
Eric ***********
SincereGiraffe753 My flight was postponed for 2 days and I rented a condo but could not get a copy of a TM30. And without a TM30 it’s way more complex to get an extension. So all has a reason
Sujy *********
Sujy *********
SincereGiraffe753 He did not overstay. It was waived shortly after the conflict started.
Todd *********

Sujy Sujaree you need to clearly understand that IS an overatay stamp. The fine was waived. And the overstay stamp is permanent

It says ยกเว้นค่าปรับตามหนังสือ which means they "waived the fine as shown by/according to the document/file (number)" something like then the document number most likely as it has an abbreviation with numbers then "written 2nd March 2026"

Up on the right side it says you can stay in the country until 18th of March 2026

Edit: the abbreviation is short for "Immigration/Immigration Beureau"

So you decide to ask strangers instead of holding the actual officers' action of letting you go without any fine, and saying you'll be okay to come back?
