Should I pay my overstay fine at local immigration or during a visa run to Laos?

Miscalculate my travel dates and ended up with one day of overstay on my tourist visa.

Is it better to make a visa run to Laos, pay my overstay fine then cross back? or go to immigration, pay my overstay there and apply for another 30 days there?

Simply put - if facing an overstay fine, is it better to pay at local immigration or border? Does it matter?
