Question: I currently have a Thai Retirement Visa and it will expire on 20 May 2020. I assume that I will need to go to the local Thai Immigration to submit for another year extension. Is my assumption correct?

retirement you normally have to do in person or have a reputable agent do for you if you don’t want to go through all the hassle but make sure you have all paper done and correct

okay, then you've been on what's called "yearly extensions of stays" <- look at the stamp in your passport and you will see that it doesn't have the word VISA on it at all, it says "Extension of stay permitted until xx date"

You act like this fairy tale amnesty b/s doesn't even exist (because it doesn't pertain to you) and you just get the documents, the bank letter, etc like you do every year and go apply for your new yearly extension of stay like normal.

Every year since getting the Retirement Visa, I submit the appropriate paper work, a letter from my bank, copies of my bank book showing that I have a minimum of Baht 800,000 in my account for at least 3 months before extension request. I never had to leave Thailand and come back in order to submit for an extension?

read my response, you do what you've done every year and apply for a new extension at the immigration office just like you always have

Your best bet in these uncertain times is to go to the nearest immigration office and speak to them.

If you have an extension based on a non-O visa, you will need documentation from your bank of a full year of deposits. This is a bit of a change in the procedure. I just found out about it two days ago.

I originally came to Thailand in 1989 on a work permit for a USA company. I have lived and worked in Thailand up until 2014 at which time I retired and obtained a Thai Retirement Visa here in Thailand. Each year I need to submit for another yearly extension

You should go about 12 to 14 days early to apply for another Extension of Stay.

You need to apply for another yearly extention of stay, just like you've done every year, before 20th May. Ideal time to go now as immigration offices wont be busy, your new extention is added to your existing one so you dont lose any days by going early.

I would go to immigration. Even if you fall into the category that has amnesty, you will be checking all the time when you have to go. Also, my guess is that when amnesty is over, it will be very busy at immigration.

Sorry if amnesty is the wrong word, hope it is clear what I mean.
