I applied DTV visa with an agent from Vientiane and provided all the documents and 500k+ Baht. I got approved in the morning but it was NOT DTV visa. They gave me 6 months Tourist visa. I don’t know why. Has anyone experienced that and please help me and share experience?

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user applied for a DTV visa but received a 6-month Tourist visa instead. Several commenters suggested that the incorrect visa issuance could be due to not meeting the DTV requirements, such as insufficient proof of income or bank balance. They recommended checking with the embassy for clarification and mentioned similar experiences where incorrect visas were issued and later resolved. It was noted that some applicants are granted a Tourist visa instead of a DTV if their documents don't satisfy the visa criteria.

A friend of mine had the same happen in Vientiane, he was invited to an interview and they explained he didn't meet all the criteria for DTV (he was missing salary slips for workcation) so they would give him 6 months tourist. This was around six months ago.

Looks like you didn’t provide the 500k on your bank account and statement. From an agent it will bite you back even you get approved. If they ask you for the money on the border and you can’t provide it you go straight home

This can happen if applying with a soft power course of less than 6 months. Its why we dont do muay thai courses less than 6 months for dtv purposes

The DTV is a tourist visa, and none of these category of visas are usually 6 months.

So it seems to be DTV.

Also the DTV visa is only for 6 months, after which you must leave the country before reentering right?

At that time you may need to repeat all your document requirements of proof for study, bank account etc

Maybe enquire with an immigration officer?

It’s not like that your visa wrongly issued. Based on your documents submitted, the officers probably decided that you don’t need to stay 5 years in Thailand and enough with 6-months Tourist visa with multiple entries.

The other applicants, who have the interviews the same day with me, got those kinds of visa.

Some embassies give METV instead of DTV if your application dont meet the requirements of the dtv your applying for. You can ask the embassy why they did, and you have to get the metv cancelled before you van apply again

I thought you can only apply for and be granted an METV in your country of residence. It's highly likely the OP wasn't a resident of Laos being that they only had to be outside Thailand to apply for an METV

So, there were these 2 cases in India where wrong visas was issued/ voided by mistake and later rectified when the applicants got in touch with the respective embassies:

I'm sharing both the links:

While the usual trend is to provide a different visa or rejection when the application isn't found suitable for a DTV, there is no harm checking with the embassy.

FunArugula6853 yeah I was gonna apply the same but I thought they don’t want a bunch of “influencers” so I just applied under soft power I think it’s that’s best.

If your document doesn't meet the visa requirements for DTV (eg not having balance of 500,000 for more than 3 months) or no credible proof of remote working/income generated from that work (if you apply on the basis of remote working), then instead of rejecting or canceling your application, officer may give you multiple tourist visa instead

FunArugula6853 did you have an interview? Did you tell them that you only plan to spend part of the year in Thailand? I believe this is what led others to end up getting METV instead

FunArugula6853 There has been one such case that I have read about in the past where METV was wrongly granted but was rectified when embassy was contacted. Please write back to the embassy explaining as to which visa you had applied for and there has been some mistake. Hopefully it works out.

anybody in this group had any successful cases changing from METV back to DTV ?

Alex Ni you can't apply for a DTV while holding an METV, you have to wait for the METV to expire as you can't hold 2 visas at the same time

please reference the post. Most who receive METV received it because the embassy determined you didn’t need the DTV

this case you reference is totally different. They received a DTV, but the remark on their DTV was incorrect, mentioning an internship. This post is about receiving a totally different visa, METV instead of a DTV

There are 2 cases referenced. Did you take a look at both?

In one of the cases, the person was issued a single entry visa and was later rectified.

In the other case, his visa was voided and when he checked the DTV was processed.

Having said that, the intent is to check for clerical errors.

While the practice is to issue METV or hand out a rejection if DTV application isn't found to be eligible, there are some outside cases of clerical errors too!

Anyway, thank you for your inputs. I hope this person eventually manages a DTV.
