Is it planned to be more easy to apply for the DTV e.g. without leaving Thailand? Why is it not even possible now? And yeah I know it's a new visa and not fully developed yet, but damn... I can't be the only one who finds that super exhausting. You can even apply for the funny ED Visa within Thailand.

TLDR : Answer Summary
The discussion centers around the challenges faced by expats applying for the new Digital Nomad Visa (DTV) in Thailand, specifically regarding the requirement to exit the country for application without assurance of approval. Many participants express frustration with the current system, comparing it to the relatively accessible ED visa and noting the inconsistency in application experiences among individuals. Participants suggest using agents for assistance, although the costs can be high. There is an overall sentiment that the DTV is intended for tourists, complicating long-term stays.

It is a tourist visa, and tourists doesn’t live inside Thailand.

Suggest you join the DTV visa group, many comments there will tell you it is so easy to obtain

there are so many groups and so many opinions haha.. but thank you, yeah, I know that it's "easy" when you have all the documents prepared. For me it's more about the fact that you have to leave the country without knowing if or when you can come back, as the process varies from country to country.

@Marie *******
yes your right BUT only need go to neighbouring country and I'd say less than a week from what i see daily, many in the group give details of where they went and how it went to.

On a recent post (can't remember if it was this group) someone said you can get a Cambodian retirement visa for $300 then it is easier to get various visas in Thailand.

@Pygo *******
Cambodia retirement visa is indeed very easy to get.

Ask the owners of this group to help. I got mine without leaving Thailand (e-visa). I just need to leave and come back to get the first 180 days stamp which I am doing this weekend. But I have already been approved for DTV with documentation.

@Darren *******************
what was the cost?
Marie ********
ORIGINAL POSTER
but didn't you have to show your stamps? and which embassy have you chosen for the application then?
Darren ********************
@Marie *******
London embassy. No stamps needed to be shown. I made sure all the documents I sent were enough so no questions were asked. I was worried they would call me in for an in-person interview or ask for proof of flights but it got approved pretty quickly without any of that.

@Darren *******************
so you mean the thai embassy in London? not sure but that seems quite risky. others told me that you still have to choose the embassy from the country you are returning to Thailand from.
Luit *****************
@Marie *******
You can only apply for a visa which is meant for visiting a country from outside the country, that is quite normal in the whole world.

When you ignore this rules and pretend you are somewhere else that indeed is risky, and when discovered it might not only result in rejecting the visa, but also in a ban

@Marie *******
That's why I asked for assistance from the owner of this group 🙂
John **********
The DTV is a form of tourist visa. It's not possible to apply for ANY tourist visa inside Thailand
Ivan ************
@Jo**
except Elite, although you can only get it without leaving Thailand in one specific place (CW in Bangkok).

What part are you finding "super exhausting"? It's a pretty straight forward and simple process if you qualify and lots of people are willing to answer questions in various groups to assist. If it's too much for you there are agents out there who will arrange it all for you so maybe look into that option.

@Helen *******
What I find the most "exhausting" is the fact, that you need to leave Thailand for the application without even knowing if the DTV will be approved in the end. I heard of ppl being rejected even though they had all their documents prepared. But yeah... an agent makes sense then.
Luit *****************
@Marie *******
I don't know on what visa you stay in Thailand now, but when it is not a long stay visa, you have to leave the country anyway, so when your current visa expands you apply for DTV for next visit, but with DTV you have to exit the country again since it is not a long stay visa, so having DTV will also exhaust you.
Bob **********
@Marie *******
agents are charging upwards of 150,000 baht and you still have to leave to get the visa go on your own if your denied just come back on another 60 day exempt stamp

I've already been staying in Thailand for over 220 days in 1 year incl. several border runs lol don't think they would let me in again haha
Bob **********
@Marie *******
probably not

@Marie *******
yeah, there is usually a reason people get declined but it is concerning to hear about it, especially when those that were declined have no real idea what they messed up and just randomly blame the embassy. Using one of the walk in embassies is probably easier since they'll tell you upfront if you need more documents and normally don't charge you till it's issued. Still, it's a risk. Agents charge a lot but if you are really worried about it, then might be worth the costs so you are stress free. Worth pricing it out at least.
Will ************
That will never happen.

Sorry you find the rules super exhausting. I can tell you from experience the DTV seems like a walk in the park compared to other visa's. It has never been this easy to stay long term and still you feel the need to complain🤣

It sounds like you have not had much experience in or around Thailand yet?

Things making sense is more of an anomaly than a standard at times. 🤗
