After your DTV visa is issued, you can enter Thailand at any time within its 5-year validity. You can remain in Vietnam longer after your DTV approval, even choosing to travel back and forth between Vietnam and Thailand for extended periods. For instance, you may spend 2-5 months in Thailand at a time, and stay in Vietnam for up to 90 days at a time.
