Now I have to apply from Germany. They changed it in very short notice and do you guys think they don’t like DTV people anymore and that’s why they do it ?

I am worried it will take so long in Germany and how you guys expect the period about applying visa there ?

Do you think it’s worth more to apply ED visa now ?
Answer summary
Recent changes in Thailand's visa application rules have raised concerns among DTV visa holders, particularly regarding the process of applying from Germany. The new regulations, which require applicants to apply in their country of citizenship, are seen as a response to misuse of the DTV visa. Users are uncertain about the time it may take to process visa applications in Germany, especially if additional documentation is requested. The discussion also touches on various visa types available, such as the ED visa, and the implications of these changes for expats living abroad.

I have to apply at Munich. If they ask for additional documentation will it take another one week ? What’s your experience about this

HelpfulSquirrel9639 about 2 weeks in Munich, but you shouldn’t ask us if you should take an ED visa, you need to know yourself, what you want to do in Thailand( for example learn the language, do Muay Thai, or learn to cook. And if you book a course, you should also attend to it, not book it just to get the visa and never show up at the courses. That is called misusing the visa and because of the people who do it are the rules getting stricter right now.

I think these rules will apply to all types of visas. In Europe, the same rules visas are only issued in the country of citizenship.

They don't like people who misuse the DTV visa. Very simple.

No. How will obtaining a visa in your home country reduce misuse?

because it's easier for the local embassy to check that your documentation, especially bank documents are real. What if a Bolivian or Bulgarian person applies in the Vietnam embassy with documents from Bolivia and Bulgaria. It'd be extremely difficult for them to assess veracity.

, what I mean is that this is just the first phase of the crackdown. The more people misuse DTV, the more difficult it will be to get. I suspect, next year Thailand will take bigger actions as they did with the student visa last year.

most visas can be extended in country, and the DTV specifically is good for 5 years at a time

My friends at the visa agency say these rules possible will apply to all visa types. Most Thai visas are issued for one year. Those living far from Thailand will have to fly back home every year to get a visa, spending quite a bit on tickets.

what do you mean per year?

I think they'll make these rules applicable to all visas as well. Those who live far away Europe and the US, will need to prepare an additional $2,000 per year for the visa flight.
