I understand you have to do the 90-day report if you stay in Thailand for more than 90 days, and you get 7 days after the 90th day to file it.
What if I stay for 96 days and then leave the country? Technically, that’s after 90 days but still within the 7-day window.
So in that case, would I still be fine since I’m leaving before the deadline? Anyone had experience with this?

TLDR : Answer Summary
The 90-day report is required for those who stay in Thailand for 90 consecutive days. While you can report up to 7 days after the 90th day, this is not a grace period but a reporting window. If you leave after 96 days, you should ideally file the report before leaving to avoid any future issues with immigration, particularly if you plan to return to Thailand.

It took me all of 5 minutes to do my 90 day report yesterday. Depends on office of course. That was Chiang Mai. In Jomtien my max time was about 35 mins
The 7 days is not a grace period. It's a reporting window. You report because you stayed 90 days. Read your first sentence up to the comma, again and again and again
