Has anyone had a baby while staying in Thailand on a DTV visa? How did you manage the visa run in that situation?

I’d really appreciate it if anyone could share their real experience.
Answer summary
The discussion covers personal experiences of expats who had babies while on a DTV visa in Thailand. Participants shared their strategies for handling visa runs, including crossing into neighboring countries like Vietnam and Laos. Some opted for short trips while managing a newborn, with concerns around passport acquisition and legal status for children. There are insights on how children under 15 cannot be fined for overstaying, and advice on applying for medical extensions if travel is challenging. Overall, experiences vary, emphasizing the challenges and solutions surrounding visa regulations for families in Thailand.

There are medical visa extensions if people can’t travel.

You should speak to the hospital where the pregnancy is being monitored. They need to help with that.

Yes, but havent done a visa run with the baby. Drove alone to Loas and used the bus to cross and return. The baby can get a Thai passport fairly fast (assuming its half Thai). Passport office in udani thani was great help, passport was issued by post 3 days after.

just re-enter before you get the baby and before you are unable to travel? that would give plenty of time.

can also extend by 180 days in-country.

Children under 15 cannot be fined and children under 17 cannot be banned.

And it would be nice to explain in the same content:

Not being fined means illegal in the country, many insurance companies do not pay out to illegal aliens.

Being a good parent should be let the child be legal, do not give bad example during the first 17 years of their life.

i just did. i ended being overstay by two weeks because my 180 days was up a month after baby was born and getting the passport got delayed. baby is exclusively breast fed so i couldn’t leave without her. it ended up being fine and just paid the overstay. Because i took her with i thought it would be best to get her dtv follower and that was rough. 3 weeks in vietnam, not knowing how long you’re gonna stay, with a newborn.

You get 180 days at entry, you can extend 180 days at Immigration.

Then a border run is needed or a short holiday.

Babies can go on holiday, but you can make the deal that 1 parent goes on day 175 for a 1 day border run and parent 2 goes day 178.

If the problem is the passport and visa, apply for a passport at your Embassy and during your holiday abroad you apply for a visa for the baby.
