Hi all, Im wanting to come to Thailand for 4 months to escape the rainy season in Da Nang, but all I can think off is a 60 day visa then extend another 30 days, so obviously thats around 3 months 🤔?? Any help or suggestions, thanks.

TLDR : Answer Summary
The questioner is seeking advice on how to stay in Thailand for 4 months to escape the rainy season in Vietnam. They initially consider a 60-day visa with a possible 30-day extension, totaling about 3 months. Comments provide various suggestions including options for multiple visa entries, such as using visa exemptions and border runs to extend their stay or even applying for a Multi-Entry Tourist Visa (METV) for a longer duration. A discussion on visa regulations, entry types, and recent changes also takes place, with advice to prepare for possible inquiries at immigration when re-entering Thailand.

We were originally planning to do 60 and leave without an extension for a couple of weeks, then come back for another 60 and THEN extend for 30 or maybe just the 7. That’ll give you up to 150 if it works. Bit of a risk though and we decided against it in the end with the uncertainty around the waiver reverting to 30 days and have cut our trip back.

James Mitchell Fair enough, I do, but they are two different entry schemes, so it’s worth using the correct term since people rely on accurate information in an advice forum.

James Mitchell using the correct term is important. The VOA is completely different from visa exempt.

Stuart Nicoll I think he might mean Visa exempt for 60 days each time. No fees for 60-day visa exempt but a slight risk of being questioned on second entry. Just dress decent and speak humbly.

Stuart Nicoll no such thing as 60 day voa.

VOA are paid for. 60 day visa exempt is free each time you enter IF your country passport allows visa exempt. 93 countries are visa exempt.

Well .. learn .. the VIsa on Arrival is different.. YOU as a Brit get just a Stamp for 60 days now ( witch will be reduced to 30 days soon , we wait for the Publication) .. and can extend it here for 30 days … but not more .. a “ Visa Run “ will be refused now

Stuart Nicoll again: there is no VOA for UK citizens. A VOA must be bought for 2000 Baht and only gives you 15 days admitted stay. What you need to do to reach 4 months Thailand is : enter VISA-EXEMPT, get stamped in for free 60 days admitted stay. Exit before the 60 days are up, stay abroad for a week and re-enter for another visa-exempt 60 days. You might be questioned on your second visa-exempt entry, that's why you should have the famous THREE proofs ready to show: onward travel proof, 20,000 THB or equivalent in CASH, and a booked accommodation

Stuart Nicoll visa exempt each time. On a side note my girlfriend and I are wanting to explore the non touristy areas of Vietnam. Please PM me if you’re willing to offer suggestions and/or the best way to go from eastern Thailand to Vietnam. We might like to do trains through both countries.

His residence would have to be vietnam to apply for METV, it’s not like a basic TR you can apply for from anywhere, and he would still have to leave during his trip

A bit overkill for 4 months

Stuart Nicoll are you talking an out this past rainy season? It was very mild compared to last year.

If you want to stay in Vietnam, just go to Phu Quoc. Their weather is perfect during Nov-March - that’s their high season.
