How do I extend my DTV visa in Thailand, and what is the process for obtaining a 180-day stamp?

I got dtv but I read many posts and I got some doubts for the extension.

1) it seems if you want to extend the 180 days at immigration office you must provide the same information and documents you already did to get the dtv and you are not sure it will be approved, but if you just travel out of Thailand and back there is no problem and you get the stamp at the passport check. Does it make any sense?

2) with the new system at passport check you don't need to show your passport to an immigration officer but just pass through the scan machine... How to get the 180 days visa stamp on passport then?

Thanks

TLDR : Answer Summary
The process for extending a DTV visa in Thailand raises some confusion among expats. Firstly, to extend a 180-day stay at the immigration office, one must typically provide the same documents as during the initial DTV application, with no guarantee of approval. Conversely, leaving Thailand and returning can grant an automatic stamp upon re-entry. Additionally, regarding the new passport check system, expats are currently required to present their passport and visa to an immigration officer, as only exit machines are fully automated. Therefore, it's recommended to avoid extensions and consider traveling abroad every few months instead.

The only automatic gates I've seen were in departure not arrivals

The automatic machines are only for exit, not for entering

There's no automatic scanning machine at immigration, you must present Visa and passport

You MUST fill in the TDAC form AND present your passport as usual to the immigration officer.

No, Thai immigration routines never make sense. Just don't do extensions, go on a holiday abroad every 3 months or so.

And you don't need a stamp in your passport if your entry is digitally recorded.

1. Does it make sense? No. But it is what it is

They can ask to see information relating to your DTV on entry but rarely do. You still need to present your passport and visa to an immigration officer
