What Are the Health Insurance Requirements for O-A Retirement Visa Holders in Thailand?

Can someone please clarify this confusing health insurance requirement for me?

I hold a one year O-A retirement Visa with a multiple entry stamp that was originally issued in Bangkok in 2016 and has been renewed yearly in Phuket. It is valid until the 20th August 2020.

I returned from a short visit to Vietnam two weeks ago and had no problems with Immigration at the Airport or when I reported the next day for my TM28

My understanding is that because my visa was issued within Thailand and not from an Overseas Embassy I am not required to hold health insurance?

Any help would be appreciated on this?

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user is seeking clarification about health insurance requirements related to their O-A retirement Visa, originally issued in Thailand. According to responses from other community members, if the original visa was indeed an O visa (not O-A) issued within Thailand, then health insurance would not be required. However, further verification of the original visa type is advised to confirm the necessity of health insurance.

Okay,
@Jim *****
you're confusing a couple things.

First you can't get ANY year long VISA inside thailand, AND you can only get a year-long, multi-entry O-A visa from the thai consulate in your country.

If you got a visa inside thailand it was a 90 day Non-O visa <- because they ONLY sell 90 day Non-immigrant type visas inside the country. AND they only sell those visas with NO re-entry because you're already IN thailand. Now after you had that visa you got a yearly extension and a re-entry permit but those are all separate things.

How about you look in your passport for the original visa. IF it looks like this you got a Non-O visa <- no A after the O and DO NOT need health insurance.

Did you first arrive into Thailand years ago...using an O-A Visa obtained when you were in the US?

If issued inside Thailand, your original visa was an O visa not an OA visa. No insurance required if original visa was O

first things first, you were not issued a non o-a inside thailand
