What documents do I need to extend my retirement visa in Thailand?

I tried to extend my retirement visa today. Be aware that you need a ONE YEAR bank account printout and this takes a week to order from Bangkok. The 6 month printout that the local Phuket branches give out will NOT WORK.

TLDR : Answer Summary
When extending a retirement visa in Thailand, it's crucial to have a one-year bank account printout, as the six-month printouts provided by local banks are insufficient. The process for obtaining this printout can take a week if ordered from Bangkok. Additionally, funds must remain in the account for at least three months post-extension approval, and maintain a balance above 400,000 baht throughout the year. Tips from other expats suggest using banks like SCB, which can provide necessary printouts promptly, and some suggest making copies of bankbooks as an alternative method.

Hua Hin. Bangkok. Tha Phanom. Each office and bank branch has different requirements and doesn’t apply to the OP. I think the OP has his answer and I’m closing comments.

I think it's totally bank branch dependent. I was at Bangkok Bank here in Bangkok yesterday with a friend and they said it'd take 5 days to get the whole year, BUT we could have 6 months right on the spot.

Why don't you just make copies of your bankbook ?

I've always done it like that. A token transaction on the day I apply for extension, update the bankbook, and make the copies.

okay,
@Nick *********
the way it works NOW is if you are using banked money method you need to show a years transaction history that is printed by the bank, (and this is especially so if you don't update your bank book every single month).

That's because you have to show the funds stayed in the account for 3 months AFTER you got your extension last year,

AND

you need to show that the balance never went below 400K baht the rest of the year

AND

then that it went back up to 800K baht two months before you applied for this current extension.

That's in addition to updating your bank book on the date you apply :O

so this is a new rule about the way you have to prove the banked money ?

New = I mean starting April 2020 or later ?

Because up to April last year (was my last extension), I made copies of my updated fixed deposit bankbook and a letter from the bank guaranteeing the amount (not the history of transactions) on that date (of applying for extension).

So have the rules changed since then, or maybe I am misunderstanding something ?

nope you're good
@Ni**
fixed deposits are different from straight savings accounts

AND

as a rule most fixed deposit accounts can't print an update on the day you apply all it will show when you update it is the last time it paid interest on the account.

The straight savings accounts need to have the years transaction history printed out

About the not being able to update on the date when apply, I "solved" that by depositing a token amount, or withdrawing that token amount the other year.

Chaeng wattana. Last time was March last year. Copy of history fixed deposit bankbook + guarantee letter of bank of the exact amount on that day. Then I didn't need the history from the bank itself.

you didn't need the history because you have a fixed deposit account ;)

Aha, o.k. That's a relief. Thought that maybe some rule had changed again without me knowing.

Just go and get a statement printout every 6 months. I do this with Bangkok Bank. Immigration accept every time.

Just go to your bank a week before you're going to immigrations and have them get the year print out, THEN when you go back the following week to pick it up, have them do the bank letter for you right then so it's freshly dated :P

have done that previously also. Doing 6 monthly means that the 2nd statement is printed out the same date as the letter without a 7 day delay.

I had this problem last year so I moved the money to SCB who can print out a year and give a letter there and then. As a precaution, as I closed my BKK account, I got a statement from them- 4 months after my extension, then ,with the SCB bank letter from the start of that account- month 4 to month 12, CM Immigration were happy when I presented both, together with both bank books. Next year no problem as it is now firmly in SCB. Not sure what the policy of other banks is, but the week delay makes the statement invalid I think as Immigration want a one the same day or maybe not more than 1 day old, I think it depends on the office.

it has been that way since they implemented the requirement that the money stay IN the account 3 months after the extension was granted AND then the balance doesn't go below 400K baht the rest of the year.

Most banks take 3 - 5 days to get it because they only have 6 months on file that they can print on demand.

I read the requirements after I got home from the immigration office. It says what you need in the website, I didn’t read it correctly.
