Hi all, I am planning a visa run to Laos, flight to Vientiane, SETV at the embassy and coming back by land with the night train. I have to documents in place, just in case (onward fight, accommodation and proof of funds). Anything special I should be aware of? Thanks in advance.

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user is planning a visa run to Laos to apply for a SETV (Single Entry Tourist Visa) at the embassy in Vientiane and return to Thailand by land via night train. They have prepared necessary documents including an onward flight, accommodation proof, and proof of funds. A comment reassures them that entering Thailand through the Nong Khai border will not require any specific documents, and suggests considering a flight to Udon Thani instead of Vientiane for cost efficiency.
you are not going to have any problem entering thailand by the Nong Khai border crossing (you won't need proof of anything to get stamped in) AND you won't need proof of anything at the thai consulate in Vientiane either because they don't require it.
Instead of flying direct into Vientiane, tou might look at flying into Udon Thani on an early morning flight and taking the mini van service the 60km to the border. It's FAR cheaper to fly to Udon than it is to Vientiane.
