What do I need to know about registering my marriage in Thailand and acquiring a marriage visa after marrying a Thai national?

* I have a visit to my home country, Israel, _mid September_.

* According to my language school, my one year ED visa should _expire early November_.

* I should be married with a Thai national _late December_ and intend to apply for whatever visa that could get me (Thai family visa?).

* What should I know regarding registration of the marriage? Are documents from my home country required? I could use my September visit to bring those.

* What should I know regarding the kind of visa that a marriage to a Thai person could help me acquire? I've heard that it doesn't include a work permit. I'm OK with that.

* What should I know about the process of applying for that visa?

Feel free to send me to existing reading materials, instead of writing here.

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user is seeking information on the requirements for marriage registration in Thailand and the types of visas available after marrying a Thai national. Key points include the need for a certificate of freedom to marry from their home country, the process for registration of marriage at local authorities, and the distinctions between different visa types, particularly the Non-O visa that can be acquired after marriage, which does not automatically come with a work permit. Existing resources such as embassy websites were recommended for more detailed guidance.
NON-O RETIREMENT VISA RESOURCES / SERVICES
  • Go to the Retirement Visa Section for information on requirements, including age restrictions, financial requirements, and necessary documentation.
  • For immediate assistance, contact Thai Visa Centre directly via LINE at @ThaiVisaCentre or Email them.
  • Explore recent discussions by using the Non-O Retirement Visa tag in the search box at the top of the page.
  • Join the Thai Visa Advice Facebook Group to ask your questions, and get advice from others.

Okay, your ED visa extension has nothing to do with you getting married here SO when it runs out it's out and that's a whole different thing.

In order to get married here in thailand you need to get a freedom of affirmation to marry notary paper from your consulate HERE in thailand, then you need that translated into thai, and certified by the Ministry of Foreign affairs office. Then you can go and register your marriage at the local amphur (city hall) here in thailand.

Once you're married you could go to a thai consulate in a nearby country (not malaysia :O ) and get a Non-O visa based on marriage.

Just so you're clear, NO visa comes with a work permit BUT with a Non-O visa based on marriage IF you got a job you could hold a work permit on it.

Also we try to keep things ON the group, and I was a second away from deleting your post outright because you asked people to PM you instead of posting here.

We have close to 30K members and we have no idea if people who contact you by messenger know their ass from their elbow when it comes to visa advice.

Keep things ON the group.

AND seeing as asking how to get married here is NOT a thai visa related thing we're done. Good Luck, I gave you what I could..

You can take a look in your passport in stead of asking the language school. What is the valid until date on your actual visa, was this a Single or Multiple Entry Visa? What is the Admitted to Stay stamped in your passport when you did your last border run, or what is the permitted up to date stamped into you passport when you visited Immigration? The difference between a visa and the stamp from Immigration:

I don't think marriage is a visa related question. You can get a non-O "marriage" visa if you qualify at most consulates. See

The "marriage visa" is technically an extension of stay based on supporting a Thai wife.

For the specific process to get married (I think).

I took it he meant only a short visit. Could be wrong though.

Hmmm...your Ed Visa language course ends in November, but you are going to Israel in September. Are you ending your study and not attending classes in September and October?
