Tod & Robert,

Benjamin referred me to you both. Appreciate if you would provide clarity, to conflicting information, when I file my Non Imm OA Visa extension.

Attached is a snapshot of my visa and all the stamps. Some key information:

* My visa was issued, in Chicago, on 12Sep2019.

* My family and I visited CM from 3-11Oct2019

* We moved to CM on 20Dec2019

* We have remained in Thailand since 20Dec2019

* My son attends school and my wife is his guardian. Their visa renewals will be squared away by his school.

My question is what date should I reference to submit my one year extension, aka “second year”?

2a. 11-Sep-2020

2b. 1-Oct-2020

2c. 18-Dec-2020

TIA for your feedback.

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user is seeking clarity on when to apply for a one-year extension of their Non Imm OA Visa, specifically asking which date to reference based on their visa and entry stamps. Comments clarify that the relevant date for applying for the extension is the last entry stamp date, December 18, 2020, not the visa issue date or the initial entry date.

And if you are in or are visiting CM, do let me know. I owe you lunch and drinks. It’s the least I can do. Y’all do provide an excellent advisory service.

@T**
, thank you for clearing this up.

So going forward, it appears that I should reference the “LAST (most recent entry stamp)” when applying for extension.

In Chiang Mai you can apply for a new yearly extension when you have 45 days or less left on that stamp so in your case you can apply anytime after the 3rd of Nov.

You would need to have the 800K baht in a thai bank account in your name only for 2 months before you apply for the extension

AND

because you have an O-A visa you would need to have the mandatory health insurance coverage from one of the 14 thai approved insurance agencies with coverage for the whole next year.

Here's the list of them

What allows you to STAY in thailand are the blue rectangular entry stamps you get when you enter the country using a visa.

Your LAST (most recent entry stamp) shows you entered the country on Dec 20th 2019 were given an "admitted until" date of Dec 18th 2020.

THAT is the date you use when calculating when to apply for your extension

You need to understand that the VISA <- the sticker from the consulate only allows you to request permission to enter the country and does not let you stay in the country at all, it only lets you exit/re-enter up to the date the visa is valid until (in your case Sept 11). meaning IF you were able to exit thailand and re-enter on or before the 11th of Sept you would get stamped back in for another whole year BUT that scenario is extremely unlikely.

So look at it this way any of the dates on the VISA (the sticker) have no bearing on you doing anything extension wise inside the country :)

Okay first lets discount the unneeded information about your family and get directly to your questions about YOUR visa, your currently valid entry stamp AND your pending yearly extension application ;)
