ORIGINAL POSTER
Hi all. Residency certificate question...I'm buying a motorbike in Chiang Mai and will be applying for a Thai drivers license (I have a US passport & motorbike license). I also want to get a permanent Thai sim (as opposed to a tourist sim).

Will I need 3 originals of the residency certificate or will a single original work? If a single original works it'll save numerous trips to immigration!

I have a long-term lease and TM30, so getting the certificate shouldn't be a problem.

Thanks.

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user is inquiring about the number of residency certificates required to obtain a Thai driver's license and register a motorbike in Chiang Mai. The discussion clarifies that generally, one residency certificate is needed for the driver's license, while none is necessary for a permanent Thai SIM card. For registering a motorcycle, it's suggested that typically another residency certificate may be needed, depending on specific circumstances.

One for each license but I made a copy for the second license and one to buy the bike none for a sim

When I got my driving license last month The Land Transport Office had to request a residence certificate from immigration as immigration Office refused to give me one. If you are buying a used bike make sure you get all the documents for transferring your name into book. You need copy of id card of previous owner signed by him or her. I had a right palaver trying to get my blue book in my name.

You don't need a resident cert for a sim, only ID to register.

Check out the annual deals for a thai sim. Some great deals on data and calls for duration...

We used these via lazada...

I'm not sure exactly how many you might need but want to say that a residence certificate is valid for 30 days from the day it's issued. So you might be able to order more than 1 if you think you'll be able to resolve everything within a single month.

Chiang Mai only lets you do 1 per day.

Yeah don't understand why. I asked for 2 when I went for my drivers license renewal, flat out "only 1 per day."

Maybe 500x2? But can't they just charge 1000 for 2? And requires less work on their part to just make 2 copies? But there I go trying to make sense of things.
