TLDR : Answer Summary
If you hold a DTV visa in Thailand, you are required to do a 90-day check-in. This check-in must be done in person at your local immigration office and requires your passport and a TM30 form. The process is relatively quick and typically takes just a few minutes. Failing to report your presence can lead to complications, as this is a standard requirement for anyone staying in Thailand for 90 consecutive days.
It's Thailand's way of keeping tabs on you. They think you are a dodgy foreigner, so you have to report back on day release every 90 days. Dumbest system ever.

Interesting enough would you have read only a few messages here you would have seen this discussion already several times...
they laughed because they joined a group that’s used as a resource to help people to make fun of you for not knowing what that very important form is. They think deportation is funny somehow
Tell him, not me. I know how the system works in Thailand! 😆

Yes, you have to do a 90 day report in person.
You'll need passport and a TM30.
Only takes a few minutes.

i understand that if you stay with a hotel they do this check in for you for the tm30. Could you simply go to a hotel who would complete the tm30 as they're responsible or would it have to be a in person visit
Hotel or owner of the property you stay should do TM30 within 24 hours from your arrival, you or any person who you give your passport and other documents should do TM47 at the immigration office the district where your most recent TM30 was.
No, anywhere you stay registers you staying at that premises with a tm30. But if you stay 90 days, you have to report to immigration in person (first time), with a passport and tm30.

Yes, but simple to do and it must be in person at your local immigration office the first time.
Good luck opening a bank account, I finally used an agent to get an account with Bangkok Bank, the cost of which was offset by the bank not insisting on having their insurance. Now I no longer pay ATM withdrawals fees, and can easily pay my condo rental and utilities. And, an added bonus is keeling all financial transactions in one place should we ever have to pay tax in the Land of Smiles. I split my time

between Thailand and my home in France, so thus far, haven't spent over 180 here in a finacial year.
Showed them my passport, provided them with a copy of my DTV, gave them my address and of course my Thai number which they do a validation check to confirm my identity.
30mins later walked out with my cash card and online banking all setup
try SCB in Bkk or K Bank, maybe a few branches say no, some might say yes, it’s Thailand, you never know for sure. Just look respectable and be polite and make a large deposit not just a token couple of k in bahts
No guarantees of success but don’t apply for a current account, just a savings account. Try and get to know the branch manager, they generally look up to foreigners in a respectful way. Just don’t turn up in a singlet, short and flip flops 🤦🏻♀️
Is there any difference between a savings and current account here? Even with a WP and high salary everyone only gets a "Savings" account. I am talking about Directors and C-Suite of global companies based here.
dunno but savings accounts with a passbook have always been pretty easy but like everything in Thailand it’s hit and miss, one day no, next try branch down the road, all ok. Same with immigration you never quite know if you will sail straight through or get asked silly questions.
Main thing, don’t lose your cool, always be polite at all times.
Remember there is no Western Logic, only Thai logic, which I can tell you takes years to understand 🙈
I am fine with bank accounts - can open when I want. I used to work for a large global company here. One branch had over 5000 salaries into it every month including C-Suite who were probably close to 1 million THB a month salary and quite a few directors on 300k +. They were very nice to us and gave us CC's etc :-)

Steve Kelly Photos what was the agent cost to open the account?
just checked, they are currently unable to offer assistance with regards to opening a bank account in Thailand due to a recent change in the law. They are however hopeful that this will only be a short-term issue.
