What are the requirements for staying in Thailand on a tourist visa, and do I need a TM30 if I do a border bounce after 60 days?

Hi, I am coming to Thailand on a double entry tourist visa in January for a duration of 4 months.

I've lived in Thailand in the past and have been on a working visa so I am new navigating tourist visa requirements...

I will be staying at a friend's house while I am there and he cannot supply me with the TM-30 form though - will I need this if I simply do a boarder bounce after 60 days?

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user is planning to stay in Thailand for four months on what they believe to be a double-entry tourist visa, but the conversation clarifies that no such visa exists. Instead, they are advised to check if they have a single-entry tourist visa allowing a 60-day stay. The need for a TM30 address registration is emphasized, particularly for a potential 30-day extension, though some comments mention that it isn't required for initial entry. The user also expresses concern over their friend's inability to provide the TM30 form, which sparks further discussion about compliance with registration laws and the complexities related to 'border bounce' practices, which are now being scrutinized.

While all foreigners are supposed to be registered with TM.30, TM.30 is not a requirement for entry to the kingdom at any entry point.

Beware of the border bounce. They're cracking down on this now.

No such thing as a double entry.

You do not need a TM30 for a 60 day stay.

Unless you're a time traveler, there hasn't been a double entry tourist visa since around

There are no double entry tourist visas, hasnt been for years.

And of course your friend can file a TM30 or his landlord if he is renting, that is required by law and not a "cant do"

Maria Fredriksson There are multiple entry tourist visas anyway. As for TM30, although it is a legal requirement, it is not always straightforward in practice. A tenant cannot file a TM30 for a friend unless explicitly authorised in the system. The obligation formally rests with the property owner, but in reality owners are often absent or act through agents, which is why compliance can be difficult. In short, it is mandatory by law, but not always practically simple to execute.

Why can't/ won't your friend provide a TM30? Seems strange.... Also not sure you're really coming as a tourist. Sound like you're hoping to stay long term on a tourist visa or visa exempt. Good luck.

Please clarify what you REALLY have....

Did you buy a SETV single entry tourist visa from a Thai Embassy or Consulate?

If so, you will be stamped in for 60 days on arrival.

And to obtain a 30 day extension of stay you will need to have a TM30 address registration on arrival with Thai Immigration.

Otherwise you will need to do a BORDER BOUNCE... to get a NEW 60 days STAMP.

Be careful with the BORDER BOUNCE as there's changes. Choose wisely the border or place you will go to reenter Thailand.

I assume that you are an American passport holder.

Your airline might ask to show PROOF of your departing Thailand within the 60 days of your initial arrival into Thailand. ASK them.
