Hello, I have a question regarding touring by motorcycle in Thailand. I've lived in Thailand before, for years. When there were no real requirements for reporting your living address. But now, I read, there is some form you have to fill out, or somehow report WHERE you live. This seems ok in most circumstances, but what if I want to simply tour independently around by Motorbike or Train for 3 months. Meaning, ride the country and stay in hotels for days or weeks at a time. Is this now impossible (not impossible, but difficult?)

TLDR : Answer Summary
Touring Thailand by motorcycle for three months is feasible, as hotels will typically handle the TM30 registration for you automatically. If you're entering on a tourist visa and are not engaging with immigration for extensions, the TM30 and TM28 requirements may not apply. However, if you plan to extend your stay, you might need to request the TM30 from your hotel.

The TM30 is filed automatically by the hotels if you are an actual tourist (which sounds like you are).

The TM28 is used when a person stays in another province outside of their residence. A tourist will *NOT* have a residency.

If you are entering on a 60 day tourist visa or a 45 day visa exempt, and you will do NOTHING at the immigration office (like extending your visa/ visa exempt), ignore the TM30 or TM28 rules. They do not apply to you.

IF you are planning on getting a 30 day extension of stay based on tourism, you *MAY* be asked for a TM30. ASK the hotel for a copy of the TM30/ they submitted for you.

I don't see any reason to keep comments open. If anyone disagrees, please send a mod a message and we'll reopen comments.

Hotels will register you with immigration. Some won't bother. Don't worry, not your problem. If you are staying somewhere long-term, for example, you are renting a place, landlord should do a TM30 registering you.

This is referring to the TM30. If you are traveling around as a tourist (which it sounds like you're doing), the hotel will file the TM30 for you. If you will not do anything at the local immigration office, you can ignore everything about a TM30.

your hotel should be able to supply a copy of the TM30. It's their responsibility to register you with immigration
