Do I need a transit visa for Thailand if I have a 6-hour self-transfer flight?

Hello.

I am hopefully entering Japan with a transit in Thailand for 6 hours, some time end of this month, and I had a few queries, if anyone could help.

1. I am using a self transfer flight from my home country to Thailand, and Thailand to Japan. Since it is a self transfer, will I be needing a transit visa for Thailand? The gap between both flights are 6 hours.

2. If I need a transit visa, will the visa be given on arrival or should I apply from my home country?

Hoping for some much needed help from this informative group!

TLDR : Answer Summary
The post discusses the requirements for entering Thailand during a 6-hour layover on a self-transfer flight to Japan. The main concerns are whether a transit visa is needed and the process for obtaining it.

If you're doing a self transfer, which per my understanding is collecting your luggage, going through immigration and then checking in to your next flight, then you're going to be entering Thailand.

As such, you might need a visa depending upon your nationality as well as a Thai Pass.
