General down the line question:

What about re-submitting/recertification of the documents you originally applied with? Circumstances may change over the 5 years. Is there a requirement or timeline to resubmit/show them ?

TLDR : Answer Summary
In the context of Thai visa extensions, it has been indicated that after 180 days in-country, re-submission of documents may be necessary. However, specific details and requirements regarding this process are still being developed by the Immigration authorities. Currently, no definitive timeline or further requirements have been communicated beyond the initial responses from officials.

The MFA guy in his interview said for an extension after 180 days in-country there will be a need for re-submission. He said Immigration are working on these details/requirements. There is nothing been said about anything further down the line as of yet. People are guessing and making assumptions but the truth is nobody actually knows - even the MFA guy who "Owns" the DTV.

ok thanks. *Highly likely* it's going to be linked to tax at a later point.

so you think you won't be able to use DTV if you don't have a TIN ? I'm more likely to try and stay under 180 days, so not needing a TIN.

99.9% of DTV holders are not "Tax Resident" for the 2024 tax year. it will be March 2026 "If and when" tax returns are due and will only be for "Assessable" income ie that remitted into Thailand. Current retirees would be first on the list as most tax resident in 2024. Let's first see if they make a tax return and TIN is required for renewal of the "O". It is certainly NOT a requirement right now. There is too much bedwetting going on about tax. Fuelled by bar stool lawyers full of Chang and newly minted tax advisors peddling fear, uncertainty and doubt

Not right now, but I hear it in good faith that the long term goal will be to have all long term visa renewals linked to your tax status/return, if exceeding the 180 days. I.e present your tax information when renewing. Not trying to scaremonger, just highlighting the strong chance of where this is heading (eventually).

Where are you "Hearing this in good faith"? "Strong Chance"??? Please cite your sources and blokes drinking Chang or Leo on a bar stool do not count and neither do those newly minted Tax Advisors who a day before were selling dodgy financial products for the likes of De Vere.

I don't drink Chang or Leo, nor do I sit on a bar stool. I will not reveal my sources. I will edit my comment above and remove " I know for sure " and stick to my later comment of "strong chance of where this heading".

Let's revisit this in 18 months, and once the dust settles, I'll bet a box of Leo thst the TIN and long term visa will be linked.

We can revisit before 18 months. The retirees visa issue and renewal being tied to TIN and tax return is surely to come first is it not? What do your double secret wink wink nod nod inside sources say about that?

@Peter *********
even after 180 days there is no automatic requirement to obtain a TIN.

@Pete ******
Retirees have actually gone and asked for a TIN recently and have been turned away. It is clear, under current rules, how and when you need a TIN

Nobody knows if it is going to be linked to tax. Do you have a link to anything official? Wait and see if they link the "O" for retirees and spouse visa to tax first. There is absolutely no sign of that.
