Have just successfully completed my 90 day check in.

I asked what documents were needed for the 180 day extention and they said another (up to date) copy of a bank statement showing proof of 500,000 THB funds.

They also giggled and said they didn’t really know as it’s a new VISA 😊

TLDR : Answer Summary
The post discusses requirements for a 180-day visa extension in Thailand after a 90-day check-in. It highlights the need for an up-to-date bank statement showing at least 500,000 THB. Comments reveal frustrations over inconsistent information from immigration offices, while users speculate about extension policies and share personal experiences. Some suggest alternatives like border runs instead of extensions to avoid uncertainties in the extension process.

The amount of people weighing in based on pure speculation and panic spreading is truly astonishing.
Michael ********
Logically nothing should be required. After all you can just leave and come right back without showing anything.

I think in the future it will be part of the ETA that is to roll out and it will have a DTV section as well as ED and Retirement Visa sections. This could be possible!what do you all think
Greg ********
@Matthew ******
I thought ETA was only for Visa Exempt? They already have all the details for long term visas.

The giggling is normal when talking to strange looking Falang, it’s routine for immigration offices to make their own rules that routinely change

i’m not sure farang are so strange looking to officers who see thousands of farangs every week. Perhaps it’s just the land of smiles and they are being kind

seeing Falang and talking to are regular reasons to giggle for Thais / you are still foreign to them from the visual and words….foreigners will never understand Thai idiosyncrasies the cultures and people are very polar opposite
Joshua ***********
@Werner ***********
they have assumption that some whites speak their language. So most officers don’t take risk by gossiping in front of you. And I don’t believe it’s the land of smile, it’s just $$$. They don’t smile when you have no money. Check how they treat their slave labors from neighboring countries.

How much is the fees? Just 1900 thb?

Honestly this discussion of extensions is useless. Nobody knows what the requirements will be. Typical of Thai law, it's all speculation until the writ drops, no officer will know until immigration drops a memo on the DTV extension policy outlining the requirements.

true but it’s useful to know that we might have to keep that cash liquid, just in case

Don't worry about in country extensions, you will never need one if you leave (and reenter) before any 180th day, which is pretty common, at least for the so-called digital nomads. I don't see many not having to visit any other country at least once for in more than 6 months.
James *******
@Elías *******
Not common for this one.

We still don't know what measures will be taken at immigration for people crossing the border. Immigration authorities may set individuals aside to request additional information or documentation. If they choose to target certain cases, they could apply similar scrutiny as seen with ED visas. Other visa holders, such as those on retirement visas, are also required to provide proof of eligibility each year. I'm not saying this will happen to everyone, but claiming that it will never be necessary may be inaccurate. Immigration can refuse entry even if you hold a valid visa.
Elías ********
Participante anónimo 102 No, many DTVers have already exited and reentered many times this year already. No questions asked, and just a new 180 days stamp upon each entry. So far it's facts, not assumptions. Not saying they wouldn't implement some changes in the future, tho.

@Elías *******
Right. So far, it’s too early to say, as the government has left the doors wide open—perhaps too open. Having spent years here, I can confirm that the government can make a quick U-turn. The DTV itself is a kind of U-turn compared to the existing visas. Immigration needs a way to milk it properly 🐮
Anonymous ******************
Anonymous participant 102 right now land border immigration is allowing unlimited entries for visa exempt. It used to be max 2 a year on visa exemption. Just did my 3rd no problems at all. And the person who owns the border run company said to me it’s unlimited. I’m sure this depends on which border you use but if you go with this company or others that use the same border you get unlimited.

Yes in the future things could change. But as of right now immigration is clearly allowing a lot of leniency. Anyone stating about changes is doing so with zero evidence and is pure speculation.
Greg ********
Anonymous participant 962 Pal who does visa runs on exempt also dude 3rd this year. He did say the same day DIY cost ar border he used went from 2500 to 3500 when exempt doubled to 60
James ********
Anonymous participant 962 Correct ✅

Which immigration office was that please? And did you need anything else for 90 day report or just turn up as before?

koh Tao. I needed my TM30, photocopy of passport photos

page, photocopy of passport stamp, and my paper copy of my DTV

oh they have an imm office now. I used to have to get boats to go to samui when i lived there in 2014. That's great. Samui were not very pleasant either

@Hannah *********
ok thks. Im in Samui so probably same re the 180 day extension
Tomas *********
@Myles ******
it doesn't matter. You can go to the immigration in your area you have your address officially only 😎
Myles *******
@Tomas ********
what? I asked what immigration office they used. I know I can use my one. But some offices may have different requirements to others just as embassies and just like when applying for other visas. The info may be useful for others to know too. Im referring to the 180 day extension.
Tomas *********
Christopher *********
I just did 90 day extension they only asked for TM30.

I did soft Muay Thai DTV

Edit: meant to say 90 day check in.
Andi ***********
@Christopher ********
if you extend your 6 month stay at immigration you possibly need to provide the 500K evidence.
Christopher *********
@Andi **********
no not true. The immigration office has not said what the requirements are
Andi ***********
@Christopher ********
i said POSSIBLY, the OP and others have heard similar, but it is not confirmed

@Andi **********
NOT TRUE... nothing confirmed by your rumor.

Well possibly i should have said

- She is discussing 180-day visa extensions, not 90-day check-ins (no such thing as a 90 day extension).
Andi ***********
That confirms border bounces will be the way forward to DTV extensions.
Anonymous ******************
@Andi **********
Immigration can still conduct checks upon arrival, as was the case with ED visa holders. Let’s see how it goes...
Andi ***********
Anonymous participant 102 Yes, no doubt that will happen too. Need to be prepared regardless.
Christopher ***********
‘Manna from heaven’ for immigration offices. There will always be something else that you’ve forgotten but “don’t worry, we can help you with it so you don’t have to go away and come back again”.

James Miller Hi James, you seem to know your stuff, so the Thai gov are not going to look into source of income whatsoever?

As far as I was aware, an individual is considered a tax resident if they stay in Thailand for a period or periods totalling 180 days or more in a calendar year, does this not apply to the DTV?
David ****************
@Lee **********
it sure does! ofc u need pay tax and have a TIN nr if u going to stay more then 183d in 1 calender year.
James ********
@Lee **********
we await further clarity on the Thai income tax situation as it relates to ALL who are in Thailand 180 days or more each calendar year. Right now, much speculation and fee grabbing by so called Thai Tax Experts.

@James *******
thank you James.

from a 90 day report post, to a mention of speculative DTV extension policy, to taxation and DTV, what a ride.

Are you going to be staying over 180 days in the LOS? If not, don’t worry 👍🏻
