I downloaded "Checklist" of visa requirements for Non-immigrant visa (O) for dependant on KL embassy website. In section Additional documents required for foreign spouse/ children of a Thai citizen, they say I need: 6.3 Bank statement (last 6 months) in Thailand with recommended balance of 400,000 Thai baht (if any).

Is it really 6 months I must have 400,00 in Thai bank? I always thought it is 2 months only.

TLDR : Answer Summary
The current requirement for a Non-Immigrant Type O visa application, as per the KL embassy's updated checklist, states that applicants must present a bank statement covering the last 6 months, showing a recommended balance of 400,000 Thai Baht. This contrasts with previous beliefs of only needing 2 months of balance for this visa type; the shorter duration applies to Extension of Stay applications at the Immigration Office.

If you are wanting to get a year-long, multi-entry Non-Immigrant Type O visa based on marriage to a thai there are far more "user friendly" consulates to go to than the one in KL. :/

Like other's suggested try the one in Savannakhet Lao or Ho Chi Minh City Vietnam.

The Thai Embassy just updated their website and checklists. It says 6 months, you refer about 2 months but that is for an Extension of Stay application at Immigration Office.

I thought it was 500,000bt but no seasoning in KL. Savannakhet and Vientiane, Laos no financial proof required.

500K baht is for raising 100% foreign kids.

Go to Ho Chi Minh, you dont need to show any bank statement.
