What are the requirements for applying for a tourist visa or ED visa for Thailand after receiving a void stamp?

Dear pros, i planned to visit Thailand few months ago, so applied for a tourist visa from my country. Unfortunately i got the void stamp on it which made me wait 3 months for me to apply for any Thai visa again. The reason for the void stamp which i assume is due to the factors like my travel agency applied without an actual flight ticket and hotel booking. They just got 6 months bank statement from me. Didn't ask me for financial supportive documents such as Income Tax returns. Also I'm 31 and single. So i just assume these might be the reasons for the visa denial (based on what I read on a visa forum)

Now the void stamp period is over (When i called the Thai consulate in my country, they told me that I have to wait for the void stamp visa validity to be over before i apply for another visa). So i would like to visit Thailand and i wanna stay there for few months. I'm also willing to learn basic Thai language. So thought it would be better to proceed with the ED visa instead of tourist visa as I'm afraid that they may deny the tourist visa once again as they can see void stamp (again this also i read on the visa forum that few guys have been denied the tourist visa second time whom have had void stamp on their visa before) . And also i haven't been to any other countries before. (I also applied for Thai visa couple of years ago and got the tourist visa for 60 days through the same travel agency. But i was not able to travel at that time bcos of some personal reasons).

Can someone kindly suggest me any Thai language schools which gives me the feasibility of learning Thai language through online classes along with the ED visa? Or can I apply for the tourist visa once again? (I'm a website designer btw and I'm not planning to work in Thailand). Just wanna spend vacation and also have an interest in learning basic Thai language.

Thanks much in advance.

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user previously applied for a tourist visa to Thailand but received a void stamp due to missing documentation, specifically the absence of confirmed flight and hotel bookings. After waiting for the void stamp validity to expire, they are seeking advice on whether to apply for a tourist visa again or to consider an ED visa for studying Thai language. Community responses indicate that the lack of financial documents like tax returns is unlikely to affect visa approval. Many recommend applying directly at the consulate and emphasize the difficulty in securing an ED visa for online classes, suggesting that the user can learn Thai while on a tourist visa.

Visa on arrival not work any more?

@Otis *****
it does..but the validity is only 15 days for Indians and no extensions (seems they increased it to 30 days from oct 2022 to march 2023)
David ***********
Just fly to Thailand and get 30 day visit then go to your nearest immigration office and get a 30 day exstencen

thanks for your response. Yeah, just came to know that they extended tourist visa on arrival duration from 15 days to 30 days from October. Previously it was just 15 days.

@Surv****
I been here 5 years and its always been 30 days exstencen to 60 when you go to the immigration office

@David **********
nah. For India the visa on arrival is just 15 days and there is no extension. So the only option to get 60 days stay is applying for a tourist visa here.

For India generally you have to deal with a company called VFS, you pay them they lose your documents and your Visa is void because you haven't supplied the necessary documentation. But of course they keep your money.

You really should specify where you want to stay in Thailand because each school is connected to a province and you generally can't get a Visa in another province to where you live.

thanks for your response. Yeah, thai visas are processed through VFS global in India. By the way I'm willing to stay near Rayong.

VFS Global is a highly reputable company based in Bangkok and Chaing Mai. They are not un the habit of loosing documents. I have used them for obtaining a new UK passport and their service was excellent.

It's best for you to go to the nearest Thai Embassy or Consulate in your country and deal directly with them so that you can get the right and proper details for your matters on visa and so..

Thanks for your response. Yeah, instead of assuming things based on reading other people's experiences on some forums, i guess it's better if i go directly to Thai consulate and apply for the tourist visa by myself.

also, better than trusting the agent. Something really doesnā€™t sound right.

Some things you are saying sounds fishy. I have never heard of any Thai Embassy, or Thai consulate putting a tourist visa sticker in your passport then voiding it. They void them after they have been used entering the country, but if you are refused when you apply they just send your passport back without any visa sticker, and say you were refused. If you were missing documents, they simply ask you to send them. They also never ask for your tax returns for any visa. There is no period you have to wait because of a void stamp, as they only put a void stamp on a visa sticker after you use it entering the country. They might have stamped your old visa sticker you never used as void, but that has absolutely no effect on anything. There seems to be a lot you are not telling us. Depending on what country you are from, now you just apply for your tourist visa online, without sending your passport to them. If you were denied entry for some other reason, other than missing some documents, there is no applying for a different type of visa to get by it. You will still be refused. How much are you paying your agent, as they are scamming you. If it was a legitimate agent they would get your tourist visa, or tell you they can't. The Thai Embassy simply does not put a new tourist visa sticker in your passport, then void it.

some consulates also did want proof of income or savings, this was another thing that at least used be required in Cambodia even for a tourist visa. Every consulate is different, so if you aren't Indian applying in India your experience may not be the same.
Ivan ************
@Kool ******
usually though it didn't mean anything beyond just you didn't have a visa. It didn't mean you had to wait or anything like that, you could apply again somewhere else or if you had better documents etc.

when i called Thai consulate in my country, they only told me that I have to wait for the void visa period to over before i could apply for another visa. They also said if i wanna visit Thailand before that, i had to go for visa on arrival.
Ivan ************
@Surv****
this could be the policy in India, the consulates all have their own rules.
Ivan ************
@Kool ******
some consulates do this, Cambodia for example used be well known for doing it. Rather than just not issue the visa they would put the sticker in and then void it. Possibly as they then got to keep the visa fee, possibly they had some lower level person put the sticker in and then a higher level one reviewed and voided. Anyway, it's not incredibly weird, it's a thing.
Randy **********
@Ivan ***********
I didnt try it with the void on it. Not worth the risk of time and money to show up. It also all depends on the person looking at your passport at the time.

got it. Thanks much for your response.
Ivan ************
@Surv****
my understanding, void on a visa shouldn't affect your eligibility for a VOA. If the consulate in India wants you to wait three months, that's a specific policy there.
Dany *******

@Ivan ***********
i believe the same. Also another guy who has got void visa stamped, he had no problem getting VOA when he visited Thailand.
Christian **********
@Ivan ***********
Thai consulate application sites state clearly that visa application fees are not refundable.
Ivan ************
@Chri*****
I know they say that, but the actual practice at most consulates in Asia is that they DON'T take the money from you if they are not going to give you the visa. They will review your application and only take the money if they will issue. If they reject, most just give you the passport back with a refusal, no charge.

I hope you're right about that. I know of two friends here in the US who were denied visas (METV) and both lost their $200 application fee. Thankfully I haven't after three applications.

@Kool ******
thanks for your response. I don't know if i could post the pic of the visa stamp here. On my case, they issued visa with three months validity and then they stamped Void. I googled the same (as my travel agency also got no idea why this happened), and found that few people have also faced this void stamp issue in the recent times. Regarding tax returns, it was just my assumption as i read in a visa related forum that some visa may be denied for unmarried individuals if they don't provide enough financial evidence. Regarding the waiting period for void stamp, when i called the officials of Thai consulate in my country, they have told me that I have to wait until the mentioned visa period gets over before applying for another visa. Also for India we have only two options, either we can apply for a tourist visa here in the Thai consulate office for the validity of 60 days (through a travel agency or by person) or an option of visa on arrival of 15 days validity. By the way I went through this travel agency as they were reputed in my city. Also thru them only i got my previous tourist visa.
Jo **********
@Surv****
i never heard of providing a tax return for tourist visa. they ask only for financial evidence like how much money you have in your account! this is strange

You should be able to get a tourist visa if you supply the necessary information. I'm not sure what the procedure is like in India but it's fairly easy to do on your own. My friend in Bangkok actually takes online classes for his ED visa through a school but it still requires a time commitment of several hours on Monday through Friday.

It's difficult to get an ED visa for online language tuition. You can do online anywhere in the world, why would you need to be in Thailand? Language schools have certain stipulations which include a minimum hours/days per week class attendance, and your language skills will be tested by immigration when you go for extensions.

thanks much for your response. I'm an introvert. So I'm little uncomfortable to attend the class in person. I wanted to do a vacation in Thailand for couple of months. Hence I thought i could do a simultaneous thai language learning online while coming there.
Bobby ********
@Surv****
Unfortunately Thai immigration don't do "introvert". You can do learning online but not with an ED visa. You can get the 60 day tourist visa, which you can extend a further 30 days. There's nothing to stop you signing up online under this visa

Don't know why you people suspecting me like I'm hiding something lol. The only bad move from me is, applying through that amateur travel agency.

Enter with tourist visa

Find a school and join .there are online classes Some language schools they will arrange ED visa it may cost 40k BAHT to 55k BAHT for one year . including school fee.

Apply a school as soon as you as you settle down in Thailand because it might take one month to process .

This is some information which I had .šŸ˜Š

The fact you didn't submit tax returns, are 31, and single aren't going to see a tourist visa rejected. Most likely it's because you didn't submit flight details or didn't have sufficient money on your bank statements.

I don't know if they're issuing non-ED visas outside of Thailand in order to learn Thai except at a university maybe. I don't think any of the language schools are offering online classes anymore which will provide you with a non-ED visa, if they were then you can study it online in your own country.

Thank you for your response. I did have enough balance on my bank account while submitting the bank statement. I read in a visa related forum that they may deny visa for some unmarried individuals and for not submitting enough financial supported documents like income tax statement. So i just assumed that may be the reason for my denial.
