What are the requirements for applying for a DTV based on a language course in Thailand?

Please can anyone advise me; I am thinking of applying for a DTV on the basis of a language course. I read that the course should be 6 months long minimum and from a reputable (not sure if that was the wording) institution. Would anyone know if you have to have paid for the course upfront prior to applying for the DTV? I’m just wondering how risky that is ie if the visa doesn’t get approved. Thank you

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user is considering applying for a DTV visa related to a language course and is unsure about the prerequisites, particularly if the course has to be paid for in advance. Several comments clarify that language courses typically fall under the Education visa (ED Visa) but some options exist for language courses under the DTV visa, specifically those that combine culture classes. It's advised to enroll in accredited programs, such as those offered by Chiang Mai University and other reputable institutions, and that payment for the course is often required upfront before applying for the visa.

Chiang Mai University Language institute and "We Learn Thai" in Chiang mai are both approved DTV for language study as well as Ed Visa - check with them and process for DTV with them.

I have checked with both these places and they are 100% approved for DTV they will assist you with the process and paper work

You better off getting an ED visa or asking ChatGPT. Read the room and don’t listen to anon accounts. We all lie

Anonymous participant 818 you are right and wrong at the same time. You are right when you say language does not qualify for a DTV (although early doors 1 or 2 were granted) but there are indeed language schools offering courses that qualify for the DTV. These courses contain a mixture of pure language modules and Thai culture modules, it’s the Thai culture part that qualifies the courses for the DTV. Perfect for people who want to immerse themselves in both the Thai language and culture.

Regular language courses come under the education visa. There is a DTV approved hybrid course of Thai culture with limited hours of Thai language, based in Chiang Mai. Courses need to be paid for in advance.Best to use a provider with a track record of approval, search the threads for tips.
