Does anyone know if a language course will meet DTV2 requirements? I have read conflicting reports that some embassies accept and others do not. Also does anyone have any knowledge on DTV2 approved cooking courses. It seems quite that Muay Thai and cooking is accepted as a qualification but not learning Thai language.

TLDR : Answer Summary
The acceptance of language courses for the DTV2 visa in Thailand varies by embassy, with many reports indicating that most embassies do not accept them as valid qualifications. Instead, applicants are often encouraged to pursue an education visa (ED visa) for attending language schools. While there are claims of cooking courses being accepted, approval ultimately lies with each embassy's discretion, as there is no official DTV-approved course.

I was talking to a lady in Chiang Mai last week who has commenced a Thai language course and got the DTV

not necessarily the basis of her DTV? I have DTV and could study while on it, but not how I applied for it.

sorry it was a him. Was meant to say lad.

Anyway, it was the basis on how he got it

Most embassies seem to suggest you just get an ED visa to attend a language school.

I don't think thry should accept it either in my opinion unless you pay for a 5 year course

Reports are that most embassies will not accept language courses for DTV as it's not on the list of soft power that was published by the MFA.

Also there's no such thing as a DTV approved course. Each embassy decides what does and does not qualify. Someone just posted last week about signing up for a cooking class that claimed to be DTV approved and their embassy would not accept it. It's each embassy that decides, not the school that is giving the course.

Jila is correct you have to apply outside the country amd I have read that the approval process varies in time from country to country. You also can't apply more than 3 months in advance and obviously need the 500k baht in a Thai bank plus health insurance.

Brandon, I would assume you can apply at any embassy outside of Thailand but my question is more about which courses are accepted besides Muay Thai which seems to be very popular.

@Glyn *******
there's no way to answer that question. What one embassy might accept another might not. Each embassy gets to make their own policies on this type of thing.

i am interested in applying for DTV thru a yoga education course in CM. I have a non b visa thru jan 12th.

Should I return to cm via a border run to Laos once my non b expiree - and begin application for DTV when i am back in thailand with a 60 day tourist visa? And then exit again to laos/vietnam to re enter with dtv if i can get it approved by one of these neighboring embassies?

The school isn’t giving me the best info - any help welcome.

@Julia *****
you can't apply for DTV while you're in Thailand. You must go to another country and apply while you're in that country through the Thai embassy there.

literally couldn’t get that answer from the school after many times asking 😅
Brandon ************
@Julia *****
the school wouldn't know. Check the embassy website. They'll say how long it takes to process. Each embassy is different.

They said they were no longer accepted as a qualification component of a DTV 2 application.

I suppose. An American mate said the embassy in LA accepted seminars but the London embassy doesn't.

@Glyn *******
- You talked with the London embassy. What did they specifically say when it comes to seminars?

thank you Brandon. Like many things here this programme seems quite full of inconsistency. I recently read that the Thai Embasdy in London approved a language course for one person but not another
Brandon ************
@Glyn *******
not surprising at all. In many government offices different staff members process things differently.
John *******
@Glyn *******
- That would be surprising. Where did you see that?

.When I first started looking at London to apply for my DTB. I posted some replies to this guy from London. He said he got approved via a language course, I contacted London Embassy, they emailed me that language courses were not acceptable.

- Yes, I saw that one individual. He also refused to name the center and has gone quiet. Therefore, I question the truthfulness there.

suit yourself mate....I am not in the habit of lying. I will repeat yet again for all you doubters out there...I applied for a DTV at the Thai embassy in London based on learning the Thai language at a language school in Bangkok. Repeat again...DTV...not ED. It was approved within around 7 days, and that's after submitting further details they requested. I have been in Thailand since 16th October, stamped in for 6 months. Showed immigration the DTV visa, sailed through no problem. I have completed one month of Thai language, second month coming up, although there are no requirements from anyone, at the moment anyway, to prove I have done course at all.

And go check out the school...they are very good.

There, you have all the information from me now...happy ?

- Can you show the visa?

@John ******
well, just to satisfy you I did try to upload a copy of my DTV to this site....but it appears your admin have blocked it ! It went to them for approval yesterday....but still not up on the site. So, looks like you will have to think what you like...

his name is George something. That's right he refused to name the school despite many people asking that question.

- Possibility that he applied for ED (not DTV) or he applied for DTV and embassy gave ED, or he didn't actually have results once he posted. It was a little strange. He stated that the training center didn't want him to mention them, but not sure most people would even ask the center if they could mention them or not, they would just share or not share.
